Our mountain neighborhood lot mixes the security & community of a quiet mountain forest neighborhood with the hosts & home near campsite to assist with special needs, while still providing seclusion, beautiful mountains & forests, & so much to do on the entire mountain from Crestline to Big Bear.
Our camp is walking distance to hiking trails. Over the summer enjoy free weekend concerts at the Lake Arrowhead Village. Lake Arrowhead is 1.3 miles away for shopping, fine dining, karaoke, concerts, and ferry rides. Lake Gregory is 6 miles away for relaxing on the beach front, fishing, and swimming. There are also farmer's markets on the weekends.
Accommodations include a fire pit area, space for your tent, clean compost toilet with private entrance attached to rear of house, locked off from house.
Outdoor summer "swimsuit shower" (cold water).
Also on the property, is a small music & production studio, available for rent at affordable prices & includes a green screen for fun family photos.
*This campground is limited to one group/booking per day. We don't have multiple sites nor space to provide privacy for separate groups. Depending on tent size/quantity, we can take 1 group per night consisting of up to 6 people max.
**Due to the fact that this is a neighborhood backyard forest campground, it is unfortunately not a party campground. We have neighbors (mostly very rare occasional renters), so we can not tolerate noise complaints, which we also don't tolerate from our rare neighboring renters to help protect our hipcamper's experience. The hipcampers we take on through requests are primarily solo campers/nature enthusiasts, small families, & couples all looking to get away for some quiet nature-filled, mountain time away from the city.
However, we aren't against having a good time. There are many lake areas, music venues, bars, shopping centers, etc. as close as a 1 mile away from us in which you can go stretch your legs & vocal chords to have some more social fun. We just keep it low-key in the cabin neighborhoods. Speaking of music venues & shopping centers, The Lake Arrowhead Village & lake itself (1 mile away) has large free music concerts & festivals among the beautiful trees & lake each summer all the way through October, as well as each seasonal period! Take advantage!
To get here trouble free, turn onto Rim of the World dr, and turn left on the small road called Inspiration (adjacent to Mountain Towing} to get to Burnt Mill dr, which you will make a sharp right on to get to our property, which will be on the left.
(Do not take Rim of the World all the way to Burnt Mill drive which wraps around the back side of our place and requires a rough dirt road to get to us. Instead, make sure and keep your eye out for the small road called Inspiration to get to our street, Burnt Mill dr)

The vibe at Madcap Camping
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Kane and Malia were great, great hosts. It was their first time but they did such a great job accommodating us, even though we made the booking quite at the last minute.
The camp site is a little tight but we really liked how the fire pit area is right on where your tent would be. This really is a great option for camping within the trees in the SoCal area!
I think they have some really great ideas on improving the place so it will only get better. As of now, we had little to complain.
NOTE: please note that this is in a residential neighborhood, so it's not as secluded/private as some people would like. Still, being in the back of the house, we saw no one and barely heard Kane or Malia in the house!
Kane was very accommodating and generous. The site was good if you are mainly wanting a place to stay and check out what the area has to offer, but not if you’re looking for a site to hang out in. It is in a residential neighborhood and though you could barely tell that Kane and his wife were home, the neighbors on both sides were. Unfortunately, the night we were there, the neighbors had a party, so it was not the get out of the city getaway we had been wanting, but Kane was quick to take care of it and make it right.
Kane and Malia were so sweet and accommodating. There property is located in a great location, very quite and nice but still close to the downtown lake arrowhead area. Would recommend there spot to anyone looking to get away for the weekend!
This was a nice spot nestled just down the hill from their house. Kane and Malia were super accommodating even with our dynamic schedule and we appreciated them taking time to give us recommendations. Access to firewood was a nice touch. Wish we could’ve spent more time here.
Despite both myself and my girlfriend being anxious introverts who are incredibly awkward and shy around strangers, both Kane and Malia made us feel extremely welcome. They were very pleasant and the site was well taken care of and there were plenty of materials. Kane went exceedingly out of his way to assist us get established and after that he vanished to leave us in privacy to embrace the quiet site.
Admittedly it is essentially a house's backyard but it feels secluded and hidden amidst a wooded gorge and both my girlfriend and myself feel very comfortable returning to Madcap.
The Hosts Kane and Malia were great. Anything that I needed they were more than willing to give me for my stay. It was a very relaxing experience and I would definitely stay again. The view of the stars and the secluded area around was a great escape from the city. Thanks for making my roadtrip fun and relaxing!
