With Joshua Tree campsites perpetually full, this is my new go-to. It's big enough for me and a couple of other parties to camp together and it really is just a five minute drive to the park entrance. There are currently no amenities -- no bathrooms, water, etc. -- but it's so close to both the park and town that it's not a big deal. Also, I'm told that platforms, shade structures, and a composting toilet are in the works for next season. Roadside parking overnight *is* allowed, but cops might question you. Best to just pull your car in next to the chain-link fence.
