JTree Boulder Garden is a 2.5 acre boulder-dotted hillside that borders the national park. There are several nature-made terraces that offer perfect sleeping surfaces. From the recommended parking, just follow the cairns (rock stacks) that will lead you to the campsites (5 minute walk*). Once you book, you'll be sent a Google Maps link and a detailed map of the area.
You'll be just a five minute drive south from the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park and Crossroads Cafe, the best breakfast in town, is just five minutes north.
Explore and enjoy!
*Please note that cars cannot get to the campsite as there are two small washes to cross to get to the land. Please park off the road along the chainlink fence.

With Joshua Tree campsites perpetually full, this is my new go-to. It's big enough for me and a couple of other parties to camp together and it really is just a five minute drive to the park entrance. There are currently no amenities -- no bathrooms, water, etc. -- but it's so close to both the park and town that it's not a big deal. Also, I'm told that platforms, shade structures, and a composting toilet are in the works for next season. Roadside parking overnight *is* allowed, but cops might question you. Best to just pull your car in next to the chain-link fence.
