River View is a group space that can handle up to 30 people with stunning sunrises and sweeping views of the Eel river valley below.  You will be renting the *entire* space, with no other campers present. Perfect for small, remote weddings, tiny rustic reunions or heart-felt gathering of folks who love nature unprocessed and unvarnished.  Several oak trees dot the meadow, with choices of flat or sloping campspots according to your preference.  We've even had folks camp in a hammock up in a tree! A sharp incline leads to an additional super-secluded campspace below (for hikers with amazing leg-strength only!)

River View is 45 minutes of dirt road from 101 (30 if you drive like a bat out of hell), so be sure you want a little more solitude than normal and love a bit of adventure.

This is wild land still!!  Some of the last wild land left in the world, unpolished and sometimes mischievous with actual wild animals wandering around, bugs and burrs in summer or mud in winter.  There might even be wild bees.  Put tick preventative on your dogs and good tires on your vehicle 'cause you're going somewhere out of the ordinary.  If you want the experience of a manicured state park with paved roads and a visible camp-neighbor blasting their radio 24/7, we can suggest several that you might like.  To each their own and more power to you.  This is not that.

Also, people have asked, yes, we are LGBTQAI and BIPOC friendly and have friend-family who live their lives very freely in ways different from our own.  We love and accept them all.  You are welcome here.  (If you wish true solitude for your camping activities, please consider our Wooded Glen Solitude site.  Also a group/whole-site opportunity but with no private road access above, but it does require 4wd.  Solitude is total solitude.)

A private road above River View leads to the Eel River for swimming and exploring.  The road is exclusive to our ranch and one neighboring family, but every now and again, you might see other guests passing by on their way down to the river.  We suggest you wear river shoes when you go, for the rocky river bed, and bring shade!  4/AWD and high clearances required.  We're serious about the 4/AWD.  If you're a marathoner accustomed to hills, then yes, feel free to walk it.  Your own mountain bikes, quads and ATVs are always welcome.

We'll be a quarter-mile above the site (out of sight and earshot) and will bring firewood for guests, so long as a warming-fire-ban is not in effect.  It is possible to visit a legal cannabis farm or have a heritage-breed pig roast or ranch-raised brined and smoked chicken during your stay, with prior arrangement.  Try the roast pig or smoked chicken. It's freaking delicious.

What an stunningly beautiful spot. If you're looking for a true escape into nature and willing to forgo the spoils of the city, this is the spot for you.

Most of the property has a completely untarnished view of the Eel river valley that was down-right jaw-dropping. If you're looking for a strenuous hike: you can take the road down to the Eel (and back up ~1500-2500 ft. vertical elevation). The view down their is even more gorgeous as the waters are a bright blue/teal color (albeit chilly in the spring). If not, you can still get there in a standard 4WD/AWD vehicle.

Heidi and the others who live on the property are amazing people who are truly generous to share land this pretty and remote with those willing to make the trek.

If you're looking for privacy, this place is unmatched. Most the time you are at least a quarter-mile from other people, however, if you drive up to the yurts Heidi and the others will gladly give you a tour of the farm and let you experience a small slice of their lifestyle. (They even facilitated a pig roast for my friends and I). They will gladly interact with you and just as gladly leave you alone if that is what you wish.

My friends and I had an amazing time and will definitely look to return there next year. (Or even later this summer if we can make it work.)

What an incredible property owned and run by an awesome woman! The dirt road is quite well maintained and our campsite was great with a sweeping view of the mountains and Eel River. Heidi was an accomodating host and couldnt have been more friendly. The road down to the river was a nice hike or a fun 4wd ride and the river is gorgeous.

Thanks Heidi, cant wait to be back!

Heidi was an absolute pleasure to deal with. The land that we camped on was so beautiful! Lots of wood to burn and already chopped down grass to put your tent. We camped in a group of 12 and more than enough room! Heidi was a sweetheart and we look forward to coming back here again. The ducks, dogs, cows, and chickens were an added bonus. So much love can't wait to go back here. I cant recommend this place enough!!!

I and my friends cannot recommend this camping site enough. It is so incredibly beautiful and isolated, and Heidi has cleared up space for tents and a fire pit beautifully. It was a holiday weekend and yet we saw absolutely no one else the whole time! Practically unheard of for a camping site that you drive right up to, as opposed to backpack to. The river is also gorgeous, isolated, and WARM. Seriously, it's a pleasure to swim in and the current is very gentle and safe. I would second Heidi's recommendation that you have an AWD car for the drive down to the river and back up. It's not an intense off-roading experience, but there are some steep climbs with looser dust and rock that non-AWD cars might have struggled with. Heidi was gracious and welcoming, and even provided us with firewood for no extra cost. And the sky at night is amazing! A truly wonderful experience.

River View at Jackrabbit Ranch was exactly what we were looking for in our two night camping trip: secluded, remote, quiet, wild... and all the other words that describe a beautiful campsite tucked into a river-filled valley.

Heidi was helpful and communicative in our messages and gave great instructions to get there. The road to get to Heidis gate is pretty fun and wild. We had some concerns about our small rear-wheel drive sedan, but it did totally fine and I think most other cars with somewhat reasonable ground clearance will as well. As for the road down to the river that others have mentioned: it’s a bumpy and windy road from the campsite, but no worse than the road to get to the ranch itself. It was maybe a mile or two (at least it felt that short), after two metal gates there is a pull off with a sign for “small car parking” and enough room for one or two tandem cars to park. This parking is for any car with two wheel drive as the grade at parts gets steeper on the final road down to the river and only recommended for 4WD. The walk from the small car parking down to the river itself felt very short, maybe 1/2 mile if that, with a few hundred feet of gain, and very manageable even in high 80’s weather. Once down the road there are the railroad tracks where we took a right to find the stairs on the left after a few hundred feet. We encountered exactly zero other people for the entire afternoon. The water is mostly shallow and clear. The day we went it got quite windy so keep that in mind, also bring shade (that won’t fly away two times like ours did).

The campsite itself is huge. We were only two people but Heidi is not kidding when she says it can fit 30. There are several pads that are relatively flat to pitch a tent and park a car. The center of the site has the fire pit with ring and metal grate that fits inside. The PPTP was clean and tidy and stocked with TP. The views from all of the sites are really lovely, mainly looking at the opposite mountain from the river.

This site felt super special and very much worth the tiny trek to get there. If you are looking for remote and quiet, this is it. We look forward to our return.

This is as remote and private as it gets when it comes to car camping. It is a primitive, spacious campsite tucked away in the corner of private land overlooking a stunning valley that drops off to the river. We loved it. The host's description is very accurate. We spotted a beautiful skilton's skink, red-tailed hawks, and even a bobcat. Wildlife abounds!

Heidi was a very responsive and helpful host. We all got there easily and while not every vehicle in our group had AWD, we all got to the site without a problem. (Definitely leave yourself plenty of time and daylight to navigate the dirt roads.) We forgot to ask about the check-out process, but other than that, everything went smoothly.

It was a very hot summer weekend while we stayed there, so bring plenty of water and remember to practice good fire safety -- which goes without saying here in California. I can't say enough how tremendous the stargazing and sunrises were, so thank you for sharing this gem with us, Heidi!

This was one of the most amazing places our group of 8 had ever camped. We did the pig roast and highly recommend it. As described in the listing and in the pre-arrival directions, it is very remote with no cell reception so I would recommend over-communicating on your planned ETA (i.e. the day before, when you leave, when you're an hour away AND when you get to the landmark mentioned in the directionsl. Now that we know where it is, it'll be a breeze next time though. The river is incredible, the views are incredible, the campsite is essentially an entire campground (you basically feel like you have the mountain to yourselves). DEFINITELY have 4-wheel drive. We had 3 SUVs, all with 4-wheel drive, and we were totally fine getting to the campsite and down to the river, but we saw someone who didn't have 4-wheel drive get stuck down there so listen to the hosts, bring the right vehicle, and it will be a breeze. Amazing amazing spot. You truly feel connected to nature and away from it all. Already dreaming of a trip back.

Heidi’s campsite was something out of a dream. I have never been car camping in a place so remote and private. My friends and I felt like we had the entire canyon to ourselves. We stayed up late playing music and relaxing. The next day, we drove down to the river and spent the entire day there - there was not a SINGLE other soul in sight for the whole day! Then we drove back up to our campsite where we had a roasted pig waiting for us.

Heidi was extremely helpful and made sure we had a great time. It was a perfect weekend for me and my friends!
