Description

The Silver Lake Campground is nestled on the shores of the spectacular subalpine Silver Lake, at 7,200 feet elevation in the Eastern Sierra. The campground has sites set along the banks of Silver Lake and nearby Rush Creek, both surrounded by willow and aspen trees. A small market and cafe are within walking distance of camp, and the town of June Lake is close by. Part of the four-lake June Lake Loop, Silver Lake sits right below Carson Peak, offering sublime mountain views, meaning trailheads departing Silver Lake climb into the Ansel Adams Wilderness, where glacial lakes, granite crags, and peaks above 13,000 feet reward hikers.

Tips for Snagging a Campsite Reservation

  • The sites at Silver Lake Campground become available online 6 months in advance at 7am PT each day.
  • June through August is the busy season here, when campsites book out long in advance.
  • There are no first-come, first-served sites here, but canceled reservations do return as "available" online.
  •

    When to Go

Silver Lake Campground typically opens in April and closes in September, depending on the area's snowpack. For current season dates and weather conditions, contact the Mono Lake Ranger Station at (760) 647-3044. At 7,200 feet of elevation, visitors should prepare for cold weather camping in spring and fall. In September and October, some some deciduous trees put on a fall foliage show on the June Lake Loop. Although Silver Lake Campground is closed in winter, there is skiing nearby at the June Mountain Ski Area.

The campground and surrounding lakes are beautiful. Be prepared (even in the summer) for sudden rainstorms.
