Also affectionately known as "The White Trash Hovercraft,"  Jackalope may at first seem like it's in the middle of nowhere - but it ain't.  Just 20 minutes from the East entrance to Joshua Tree National Park, on Sunday mornings you can trundle a mile over to the Palms restaurant, where locals (artists, musicians and desert rats) and tourists alike meet for hot breakfasts and strong drinks (this is a friendly, Bloody Mary kind of Sunday place...) There's even an upright piano there (and probably more upright than some of the bar's patrons at that hour), if you're in the mood to tickle the ivories, or even sing!  Yup, that happens there.

The musician-owned Palms also hosts lots of music events - but call first, since it's not every night.

But back to Jackalope.  Ah, it's the inside of the Hovercraft where the love is at - in all its 1970s-era  glory.  More pics soon, but besides the salmon-hued kitchen appliances are Brady Bunch-worthy upholstery: desert orange, gold, and brown plaid adorns both the cozy bed and the kitchen bench.  Just a great place to kick back with your book, some tunes, and the beverage of your choice!  And lots of storage for those things you don't feel like leaving int he car!

And like all the properties in Wonder Valley, this site comes encircled with mountain ranges, and features unbelievably starry nights at no extra charge!  🌜

NOTES and RULES ~

🌵"Leave no Trace": Please leave the camp as you found it. Bagged trash and output from the dry toilet can be left in the nearby dumpster in the road.

🚨 I highly recommend you have AAA or a similar roadside assistance service when visiting this site, or really any site in the Joshua Tree area. This  especially comes in handy if you get stuck in the sand.  To help avoid getting stuck in the sand, stay on marked driveways, which are generally marked with flags, reflectors, and solar lights.

🚨All campers are responsible for their own welfare and safety.

🚩Check the weather - and bring REBAR to pin your tents down - it can get windy in the desert! Suggested rebar lengths are 1 - 2 feet long; they can be found at any hardware store.  There's a Home Depot in Yucca Valley, which you'll pass on your way in from the West; otherwise, there's also a good hardware store right in 29 Palms: Builder's Supply/ Parker's Building Supply, 6854 Adobe Rd., 29 Palms 92277.
