Tucked away up a short trail is an outdoor open air structure built out of salvaged redwood, with screens, a clear roof and cotton canvas curtains for doors. This is not a luxury suite.  Arrive before dark to easily find your site. Not intended for cooking or eating, there are other communal spaces available - including a kitchen and firepit - in the main area.

A Home with Family, Friends, and Animals

Striving to create a minimal impact, with a respect and awareness of this wild and natural part of the central California coast. Practicing simple eco-sustainable and environmentally friendly living techniques.

An escape from the electrical grid. There is no internet, electricity or phone service. There is minimal solar lighting, fire and propane stoves and water heaters.

There is an outdoor open kitchen available to use for the local community and visitors, with dishes, a sink, stove, and a fire-pit with grill for cooking. There is an organic vegetable garden, goats, chickens, bees and fruit trees.

Drinking water is spring fed and also available filtered. Bottled water is unnecessary.

No personal fires (besides Tipi’s). There are two communal fire-pits, one in the main area and an outdoor fireplace on the second level.

Structures on the land are rustic, generally lightweight and built to blend in with the natural character of the land. There are outdoor composting poopers set up with sawdust and barrels, and there is a flushing toilet with an old septic tank that is mainly used for peeing.

Kids are welcome with an accompanying adult.

Dogs are welcome off leash, unless they attack chickens, goats, cats or other dogs. Please bring a shovel to bury dog poop.

This is a remote area with beautiful beaches, creeks and hiking trails throughout the forest. Some areas can be very dangerous with steep cliffs and loose rocks.  Be aware that things like spiders, snakes, raccoons, mice, poison oak, etc.. exist in natural areas like this.

Enjoy the scenic Pacific Coast highway. Retreat into nature by yourself or with friends and family. Have a romantic getaway. Practice art, music and photography. Spend time to read & write and sit in meditation. Adventure along the creek, to the beach or up the mountains.

No stereos or electronic music devices. Acoustic instruments are encouraged.

Carpool, parking can become tight. This is a busy, curvy mountain 2-lane Hwy. If a car wants to pass, pull over.

Take away your own garbage. There is no trash service. If used properly, there is a recycling station  to sort paper, glass, metal, plastic and food-waste. Do not put unsorted bags in any bin.

Alcohol is discouraged. It is not intended as a place to party or get drunk. A casual drink is okay.

All contributions are put back into the land, helping to facilitate the nurturing and sharing of this sacred space.

-IN ORDER TO BE ACCEPTED- please write  "My party and I have read and understand the description" and then tell a little bit about yourself/party, in your booking request. Do NOT request to book if you are uncomfortable being around other people or feel the need to wear a face-mask outdoors.

We are currently not booking more than 14 days in advance and there is a 2 night minimum on weekends. Internet is usually checked once daily around noon, Mon- Fri. Maggie sometimes help manage reservations but does not live on the property.

Arrive before dark. Dogs may bark, but are friendly. You are welcome to check-in with hosts and get any assistance you may need, but they are not always available. Make sure you read the Written Directions and Manual and have them saved, as there is no reception on the coast.

Be prepared before leaving Monterey from the north and Morro Bay from the south with plenty of gas, a light, warm clothes, groceries, wood, ice, and anything else you may want or need from town.

In the wintertime, Dec-Feb, the days are shorter and it is wetter, windier and colder and there may  be unsafe road conditions. As many structures are outside it is advisable to check the weather before booking.

Wow! Such a unique and beautiful place!! Can't wait to come back. Thank you Ohji and Bree for sharing your little corner of paradise with us 😁

outdoor shower with hot water was divine!Incredible location!! Ohji's charming place is tucked into a little canyon just behind the white railing bridge...outdoor compost toilets are strategically placed around the property. Was a little weird at first but you get used to it ;) And the host has obviously put time and thought into making these comfortable and private. This is true off the grid living :)outdoor kitchen was so well equipped with everything we needed! Fellow campers were courteous and friendly as we shared the space and equipment.

Such a wonderful little haven right in the middle of that wild California land, where the ocean meets the mountains. The hosts were lovely, and the beach is just a short walk away. Would definitely recommend this spot!

Everything was magical! We made friends, had a fire with the other campers, and watched the sunset from the beach. And the cat was so sweet! We wished we stayed longer. Best part of our trip by far.

Great place to explore Big Sur and in walking distance to the beach. The property is completely off the grid! They have solar powered lights, composting toilets, and gas powered stove/hot water in the communal kitchen. The cabana with futon was private, clean, and comfortable. Would definitely recommend staying here.
