It was very nice staying at HOME. The space is quite lovely and we very much appreciated Josh's hospitality. The Brookside site is near the babbling creek and is mostly hidden away under some big trees provide adequate shade. This space is great for a quiet getaway and is quite close to Nevada City, Scott's Flat reservoir and the Yuba.

Living up to its clever name, at HOME was delightful to fall asleep to the sounds of crickets and the flowing brook.

The location is amazing and easy driving distance to fantastic hikes and Lake Tahoe!

The Brookside site was closer to other people than we expected (campers at another site were boisterous and audible, and we could see people in a house from our site).

The instructions around campfires were not very clear - the hipcamp listing said fires were allowed at our site and we were able to order firewood but there was no designated fire area pointed out to us. We also didn’t get a tour of the property at all and didn’t know where the water/trash/etc. areas were.

It took a while to find someone and figure out where to go when we arrived, but there was some kind of emergency water incident that the host had to attend to around our arrival time, so I suspect this was just an unfortunate blip.

I am confident the host is dedicated to making the hipcamp experience smoother and even more awesome!

Definitely give HOME a try if you want some calm nature and proximity to beautiful forests and mountains.

Response from Josh, the Host, on August 12th, 2020

Hi Ash, Thanks for the feedback. 99 percent of the time I’m there when folks check in to give them a proper welcome and a full orientation. The weekend that you stayed, I had to take off during check-In time to get some supplies after a plumbing issue in our cabin left me waiting for a plumber unexpectedly. In the hour or so that I was away, about five guests checked in and while my roommate did her best to get everyone situated, I guess we somehow missed you. I’m sorry that you weren’t happy with your experience. Brookside is our most affordable campsite and it is in close proximity to the sites in the Meadow. The Meadow is designed as a community-oriented camping experience while providing enough private space to safely socially-distance, and Brookside is located close by. This provides a site that is conveniently located near our main picnic area and the bathroom at an accessible price but it does have its drawbacks. We offer three other sites with far more privacy from other campers: the commuter, which is admittedly close to the home for internet access, as well as Nature Palace and Stargaze which are both quite a ways from both our residents and campers. These sites are a bit more money, but they provide a more intimate experience. If you’d like to consider a return HOME, I’d be happy to offer you a discount if you were to consider one of these other sites. Thanks again for your feedback.
