About Happy Valley Ranch
Happy Valley is an operating rescue ranch which provides sanctuary for horses, alpacas, pig and cows. Our glampsite is situated at the edge of a large meadow with beautiful views of Mount St Helena and and surrounding hillsides. Inside the tent are conveniently placed electrical outlets, lights, a wood burning stove, fans, a deluxe full size bed, a full size air mattress and a single bed, all with duvets to keep warm at night.
Included in the glampsite is a fully operational outdoor kitchen with everything needed from pots and pans to wine glasses and cutlery. We had to get rid of the fridge because it was using too much solar power, so be sure to bring a bag of ice for the cooler if you need to keep anything cold.
The outdoor bathroom features a claw foot tub with hot water, a composting toilet, a sink, an overhead light and an outlet. Fresh towels are provided for bathing and swimming.
Our spring fed swimming hole is the ideal place to splash around and cool down in the summer heat, located directly in front of the glampsite.
For those who like walking, there is a beautiful trail near the glampsite that is perfect for hiking on. Please refer to the map when you arrive.
Although fire hazard is high in the summer we do understand that camping isn't really camping without a campfire. The glampsite features a fire pit for cozy night time gatherings and also for wood grilling.
The driveway to the campsite is a gravel road, so a SUV is recommended but not essential.

The vibe at Happy Valley Ranch
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
The setting at Happy Valley Ranch is absolutely dreamy. When you come down the road into the property, you are greeted with a view of horses grazing with Mt St Helena in the background. The tent is spacious and complete with a real bed, dresser, couch, table, and stove. The deck of the tent faces the dawn and overlooks the cooking area, swimming hole, and valley beyond.
We were greeted by Sarah and the property caretakers who showed us around and shared the story of the property and animals, who are rescues.
After a refreshing dip in the spring water swimming hole, we used the well-equipped outdoor kitchen to barbecue our dinner. We even made a fresh herb salad with pickings from the garden!
While the tent and bathroom area are cordoned off from the horse pasture, the pool and kitchen are not. Curious horses came right up to the table to sniff around and see what we were up to. It was a surreal and pretty entertaining experience, but we finally ended up moving up to the higher deck to get a little space while we ate!
The sun rises directly into the door of the tent, so be sure to draw that closed if you want to sleep in. The kids were excited to see the sunrise and bolted out of bed when the sky turned pink, even though it was another hour until the sun actually came over the mountain! I was grateful for a french press and cozy couches and blankets to curl up with. The valley cools down quite a bit at night and morning was pretty brisk compared to our 90 degree arrival!
The place is really well-equipped with hot water and solar lights. It was so nice not to have to think about stuff like that. While it's a huge step-up from a sleep-on-the-ground camping experience, we did encounter a lot of cellar spiders in the tent and around the sink. A composting toilet going in soon will be a great addition!
My only regret is we missed the feeding time with the alpacas! Such a memorable trip!
Happy Valley Ranch was a great place to have a weekend getaway. We enjoyed the quiet wilderness, but also the close proximity to the wine country. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well-stocked. Even though the listing was rustic, we definitely enjoyed our "glamping" experience. Would be back again!
We loved our stay -- Sarah is an excellent host, the bedding is plush and comfortable, the outdoor kitchen is gorgeous, and the free-roaming horses and ranch dog were friendly. Can't wait to come back, maybe with a small group, and try out the swimming hole and explore the property further.
Happy Valley Ranch is so amazing! Literally the first camp site I have ever been to with running water, pool, wine glasses and an outdoor shower. I could have stayed for a month. Sarah made everything so easy and special for us. We will 100% be back we LOVED it! There are horses, alpacas and we brought my dog too and he had a blast. I would highly recommend this place!
