Garth's Boulder Gardens's Kiva and ancient fire pit were discovered 20 year ago. The fire pit was discovered under five feet of earth. Garth, the landowner accidentally found it while leveling an area for a Bird Avery. The fire pit was assessed to be around 1000 years old. A clay roofless circular safety wall called a 'Kiva' was formed around it using stones, clay and Joshua trees. Bring your own wood. A portable restroom and a potable water spigot are close by, There is plenty of parking space, and room to set up tents. There is a table and two chairs. Up the road a bit is the main area where Garth's tepee is and the massive boulder gardens, and other features built over the past 40 years. Its a great hike on foot, or you may decide to drive, either way its a must see. Magical and wondrous
Staying at Garth's Boulder Gardens was nothing short of magical. We came in with very few expectations and left with a renewed sense of purpose and fresh perspective. It's unreal that such a beautiful place can exist in this day and age amidst all the current social chaos and political upheaval. The kiva camping site was just a slice of a much larger property that can only be described as a video game map, with unique locations and interesting people at every turn. You gotta see it for yourself!
Breathtaking hippie wonderland
Garth’s Boulder Garden is an breathtaking hippie wonderland. The ancient fire pit tent site location is right next to Garth’s entrance, so not the best for privacy etc. but it is picturesque and the fire pit itself is beautiful and definitely worth seeing. If you’re looking for a remote campout this might not be the site you want to choose. The other ten/rv sites in Garth’s Boulder garden are much more secluded and less traveled by traffic in the night so I imagine more comfortable campsite locations. We were grateful to be able to stay at such a wonderfully private campground. Such a treasure. Five stars for sure! Loved the bird sanctuaries. Loved all of the cool hippie touches and man-made clearings and rock steps and all of the artful embellishments. So unique and so beautiful. Will definitely be back. Kyle, our host was friendly and wonderful. All of the 640 acres were immaculate and breathtaking. We loved our stay and we hope you will too :)
Super magical, relaxing experience!
The ancient fire pit is a magic camping spot! Kyle was very nice and helpful! He gave us tips and different spots to explore the garden. It was an amazing place and can't wait to go back.
I would definitely recommend visiting Garth’s boulder gardens. We stayed over at the ancient Kiva and really enjoyed our time there. Kyle was very kind and welcoming. The land is beautiful and there’s lots to explore!
Beautiful desert experience
The Ancient Kiva site is perfect for a big group of people. It is near a yurt that is really cool to hang out in and is a 15 minute walk to the pool and the amazing boulder gardens. This is not a private site really, the main entrance is only a couple hundred feet away, but we did not mind at all. No one bothered us and we were able to do what we wanted! I would recommend this site to anyone, it really is something special. All 11 of us that went unanimously decided we need to come back.
