We love to host families, individuals and couples, who are looking to take a fresh breath, and reconnect with nature away from the hectic city life. We are situated in the High Desert Hills next to the Los Angeles National Forest and the Devil’s Punch Bowl County Natural Area. There are beautiful trails for hikers as well as horses at about 4,750 ft (1450 m) elevation, with scenic views of the tilted sandstone formation on the northern slopes of the San Gabriel Mountains. We have washes on both sides of our property where you can spot a variety of wildlife, including deer. In the winter, it is not uncommon to get snow here. If we had enough snow fall in the nearby mountains, streams run through the washes in the spring. We also see the rainbow here every time it rains, because the sun is always present over the land during the day. We pride our selves with providing the best close-and-personal experience with our free range horses, goats, sheep and chickens! We offer riding and horsemanship lessons for beginners, hand-led rides for young children, guided trail rides with safe tandem riding option for children on the back of the guide. For the more experienced riders we allow for all day trail rides in all for gates- walk, trot, canter and gallop. We have 4 horses and a Shetland Pony, to accommodate a group, or a family. We also have a 24ft x 24ft x 5ft corral to accommodate bringing your own horses. There’s space to park your trailer and a 50 ft roundpen. Please, take a look at details and prices listed under the “Horseback Riding” section. Kids and adults alike might enjoy brushing and petting our friendly horses, goats, sheep and chickens, and bottle feed baby goats and sheep in the summer. We also offer milking lessons when we have “fresh goats”. You can opt to have a Ranch Experience, including chores, feeding, gathering egg etc. Feel free to take photos with all the animals, or inquire about our professional photography option. There’s lots to do here. Road Bike Races happen twice a year. Mountain Biking, Dirt Bikes and other Off Road Vehicles have their own trails. The Devil’s Punchbowl offers a visitors’ center where you can see live reptiles and owls, and learn about the desert flora and fauna. In addition they offer: Animal Presentations; Full Moon Hikes; Meteor Shower Programs; Nature Parties; Ranger-led Hikes; San Andreas Fault Tour; Group Hikes (Reservation Only); Seasonal Special Events, including Stargazing through a telescope with a lecture. For the youngest crowd, there is a water park with shaded playground and green grass fields to play on, within 4 miles of the campsite. Visit Lewis Ranch in Harvest Season for apple-picking and fresh cider, as well as the many local ranches offering cherry-picking, and varieties of organic fruits and vegetables in season. Charlie Brown Farms is a fun place to explore for wild variety of rare souvenirs, vintage toys, or just stop by for fudge, jerky, soda, BBQ plates & milkshakes, chocolate covered bacon and strawberries, freshly hunted meats, as well as normal grocery items. You can also visit the Outpost for Indian artifacts and “the world’s best jerky. They offer Civil War reenactments, gold panning and more. Other fun places might be The Antelope Valley Indian Museum State Historic Park, especially during a Pow-Wow; The Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve in August, when the poppies are in full bloom; The Forever Wild Exotic Animal Sanctuary, where you can get within a couple of feet of lions, tigers, bears, sloths, dingos, foxes and numerous birds and reptiles; the Antelope Valley Rural Museum; Willow Springs International Motorsports Park and more. For our equestrian programs we offer: 1/ Trail rides for experienced riders at the walk, trot, and canter. Stephanie was an amazing host! We arrived to a warm greeting from her and kids. They introduced us to all their farm animals - including 4 day old baby goats. After setting up our tent and getting comfortable, Stephanie and her children took us out for a ride on their horses through the trails behind their ranch.

Our campsite came was prepped with a flat, rock free area for our tent, a picnic table, a grill with charcoal and lighter fluid, water, a trash can, and a popup outdoor shower and toilet.

Freedom Ranch is located at the base of the Angeles National Forest and just a few miles from Devil's Punchbowl - both great for hiking!
