Pitch a tent or bring your camper! Located on 12 acres near the idyllic and historic town of Julian, famous for pies and old time nostalgia. Fort Cross is a working farm and offers many great activities including Archery, Tomahawk Throwing, Ghost Town Slingshot Range, Petting Zoo, and so much more! Many high rated trails and hikes are located in the surrounding area.
Our location is great for star gazing, as Julian is apart of the Dark Sky Network. It's not uncommon to see shooting stars and it's a popular destination during meteor showers.
****It's Really Super Duper Primo Important to read all of the information below *Before* submitting a booking request!********
-Fort Cross hosts several seasonal festival events, as well as regular activities the rest of the year. Each camper over 3 years old will need to purchase tickets/passes for whatever activities are planned for the time of your stay in order for your booking to be approved. Regular weekend activities include archery, tomahawk throwing, slingshots, petting zoo and reptiles. Regular weekend pricing for packages are $20 per person. Courtesy 10% discount for hipcampers!
-If camping on a night that we are hosting a special evening event, campers must purchase passes for the event. For example, Saturday nights in October we host the Haunted Harvest event. See website for more information closer to the date.
-Extra $20 per camping vehicle (trailer/rv/camper shell) for the first night; camping vehicle fee reduced to $15 per night if booking for multiple nights. Only camper/trailer/RV under 30 feet permitted.
-1 vehicle per campsite; $10 for each additional vehicle per night, per campsite. Extra vehicles are welcome to park in the parking lot on non-special event weekends free of charge. Not all campsites accommodate vehicle parking next to tent; just loading and unloading in those areas. ***If camping during special events (ie: festival weekends including Lilac Festival, Autumn Jubilee, Holiday Hayride), all vehicles (other than camping trailers and RVs) MUST be moved to the parking lot before opening at 10 am each day****
-Please arrive before sunset. We are a rustic location and our area supports the Dark Sky Network to keep stargazing awesome. So to avoid setting up in total darkness, we ask that you arrive at least an hour before sundown. *Check-ins after 7:00 pm are not accepted.*
-Because of our apple orchard, we maintain a closed gate at night to prevent the deer from coming in and eating our crop. If you are planning to stay, please know that we do not allow cars to go in and out beginning at sundown as we do not want to chance the gate being left open or closed incorrectly. However, you are welcome to drop off your gear at your site and park in the parking lot. There are accessible doorways for people that you can walk through to access the parking lot and beyond.
-Communal campfire provided, weather permitting. Fire is put out at 10:00 pm. You are welcome to bring a camp stove.
-There are a lot of cats here! Most are friendly, none of them are aggressive. We are a working farm and our cats help keep the gophers and other pests out of our garden. Please be sure to have your dogs on leashes while they are here, and use caution when preparing and eating your food as most of these cats are not shy about swiping your tasty treats!
-This one is a bit of a bummer, but due to the fact that we are a family friendly establishment, and have had issues with it in the past, we do not typically allow alcohol on the premises. However, we understand the desire to unwind and have some fun. So if you plan to drink any alcohol, we will allow it only if you do so with discretion at your own campsite. Please do not wander the property with an open container. If you absolutely have to break that rule and risk getting kicked out of here, please do so with a travel thermos instead of a red solo cup. You're not fooling anybody! lol ;)
-Smoking of any kind is prohibited on the property.
-Fort Cross is located right off of Hwy 78 and there are a few really fun businesses located nearby. There are occasionally nights when live music is played at one of the nearby establishments. Please feel free to reach out to inquire when those dates might be. We will try to keep up with the schedule for that on the calendar page of the FortCross com website as it is made known to us.

If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Jess and Doreen have an amazing space for camping! Its a peaceful and beautiful property with picnic tables and fire pits and if you camp out on the weekend while they have one of their festivals going on you have plenty of activities to do! From the petting zoo to candle making to tomahawk throwing and sling shooting paintballs....tons of activities! Great place to take the family to camp. I highly recommend Fort Cross Camping!
The camp hosts Doreen and Jesse are really nice people. When we arrived they showed us where the camping area was and gave us some basic info and pretty much left us to ourselves. We found the camping area to be fine for our group, we had a couple of trailers and a couple of tents. The space was big enough for us to have a large common area where we could line up our tables to enjoy large meals together and sit around a camp fire. The children in our group enjoyed exploring and playing in our camping area and some of the other surrounding areas of the property. The hosts do offer activities (archery, petting zoo, candle making + more) which is available to the public so you will see foot traffic but it didn't bother us at all (plus we were informed ahead of time). The camping area has a nearby porta-potty and outside sink for use. People with RV's or trailers who need to connect to electrical should contact the hosts ahead of time to ask about status. For our group the electrical wasn't able to handle the load from the trailers, not a big deal, one of us used a generator. Our group enjoyed our camping trip and spending time together.
Me and my 2 children came for 1 day and 1 night. I felt incredibly safe and my kids could not stop talking about how much fun they were having. We participated in all of the activities and saw all of the animals. It is truly a unique experience that we have to do again! The hosts were incredibly kind and gracious. All 3 of us recommend!
Sites and activities are ran by owner Jessie and wife who are very nice and informative. Very few camp site, but yon are able to still visit and participate in activities without camping over night. There is one porter potty and we never had an issue waiting. Showers coming soon! Would definitely recommend this place, especially if you have little explorers
Doreen and Jesse were great hosts. Our group enjoyed all of the activities. There were several camping spots to pick from with shade and picnic tables. Jesse checked in on us a couple times to show us a few activities and check to see if we needed anything, but we able to take our time and participate when most convenient. We felt very safe and didn't worry about the small kids running around because the campsites were well kept. We were near the community fire pit which was perfect for our group. I would recommend Fort Cross to anyone looking for a fun camping experience.
We brought our kids here to camp and for a day of activities. They had a blast on the tire swings and finding things to build using the various cool things that they have around. They really loved the cats that roam the camp! Farmer Ben was amazing. He was very patient with our kids letting them hold/pet the animals in the petting zoo (bunnies, ducks, pig, goats, rat, chicken). The we learned archery and how to throw a hatchet. Then it was on to slingshots with paintballs at a very cool storefront facade that had become a Jackson Pollock artwork after many rounds of multicolored paintballs. After that we visited the reptile house and held all kinds of snakes and fun critters. We enjoyed the Julian Station restaurants and activities across the street during our stay. We didn't have to pack nearly as much food as we usually need because we could just walk across the street. For hiking and more wooded beauty we headed to William Heise Campground. The kids couldn't wait to get back to play at Fort Cross after the hike. At night, the communal fire is a nice way to meet people and we loved hearing Farmer Ben and Jessie play music and sing.
It's an interesting place to go camping. Pros: Great showers, lots of space to explore, great with dogs, amazing activities, fantastic location right across from Julian Station & Mom's and awesome hosts. A few things to note: very dusty, not a lot of shade, communal campfire only, and you do have tourists going through the campsites for their daily activities. overall a fun experience for the kids.
Absolutely loved Fort Cross! The memories that me and my son created their are going to stay with us a long time. Jesse, Doreen, and Farmer Ben are really wonderful people and their place is such a wonderful treat for kids and grown ups alike! We wish we could have stayed longer. It feels like the long summer days of my childhood there. I recommend it for families looking to bond with their children, and get back to their own inner child in a safe environment that allows kids to really feel that freedom of play and wonder.
