FOREST SPRINGS: 55 scenic miles northeast of Redding in far northern California, surrounded by Shasta National Forest, near lakes and hot springs, with many shady hiking trails along our creeks in the lush and varied forest and to our small lake.
We are about 4 hours from Sacramento, 4 1/2 hours from Berkeley, 5 hours from San Francisco or Santa Rosa, 3 1/2 hours from Medford, and 4 hours from Reno.
The splash pool is filled from June 15 to Sept 15 and is drained, cleaned and refilled between guest groups. For a large group, a 2nd splash pool is also filled. They are sun-warmed and a great spot to relax in the afternoon with views across the meadows to the mountains beyond.
Awesome, shady trails through our lush forest lead along creeks and into the surrounding National Forest. Our little Discovery Lake sports a dock with bench and a rowboat (in season). Fishing for the trout is catch & release.
Off the property but nearby are hot springs, swimming holes, 2 larger public lakes for boating and fishing, and impressive waterfalls. We are 1 1/2 hours by car from Mt. Shasta or Mt. Lassen National Park.
Open April 1 to Autumn
From the pavement, we are at the end of a 1 1/2 mile decent gravel road, no 4-wheel drive needed unless towing. With mostly gently rolling or flat terrain and 2 mild hills, our elevation is about 2500' and the temps cooler than in the valley.
PETS: Dogs are welcome off leash! They enjoy romping in our creek and lake as well as in the mowed part of the meadow and on the trails. Pet fee.
Should guests want to visit sites off-property where dogs can't, such as the hot springs, Burney Falls and Lake Britton, we offer a huge (100' x 50') secure fenced pen with shade trees. Of course well-behaved dogs can also stay in the guesthouse if it has been rented.
RATES
If our rates seem high, it is because we only host one group at a time, for your peace and privacy.
Besides the natural beauty, everyone notices the QUIET. But you can bring your rock band. Amazing stars, too!
Forest Springs RV (sleeps 3) (includes use of bathhouse): an older 25' long "5th wheel" with a comfortable memory-foam queen bed and a twin bed sofa is situated in a shaded private area overlooking the forest. Towels and bedding provided. The RV has flush toilet, sinks, hot shower, lights, fans or heater in season. Less than 3 minutes walk to the bathhouse for another flush toilet, sinks and hot shower. The kitchenette has a microwave, 2-burner electric hot plate, cookware and dishes, etc. for 4 people. The small refrigerator is outside by the picnic table, under the roof-over that surrounds the RV. There are fans (no A/C) but the warmest nights usually cool down to 60 degrees. The RV and its car park is located in a private area near the historic barn (no animals) under huge oak trees. It has a splash pool (in season), 2 lava-rock fire rings with grills, table-top BBQ, firewood, briquettes, picnic tables, benches and chairs. The site has views of the forest on one side and of a meadow and mountains on another side.

The Forest Springs RV camp was a great way to enjoy a bit of nature while still having a few creature comforts. First, I should talk about the property in general.
The physical structures of the property sit in the middle and on either side are beautiful meadows that transition to dense forest. There is a natural spring system and corresponding creek that is the life blood of the forest and makes this particular area teeming with critters. There is an abundance of natural fruit, varied vegetation, thick trees, and unspoiled land. The power of the natural spring is harnessed and converted to energy, which is how the power on the property is produce. Forest Springs is completely off-the-grid, but there doesn't seem to be anything sacrificed in the process. An abundance of water, ample electricity, and a full bathroom/shower make it easy to get comfortable here. Colette has gone to great lengths to develop a trail and map system that covers the whole of this large property. There are hidden lakes/ponds, old bridges crossing the stream, and animals galore in the surrounding forest and groves.
The RV itself is equipped with more than what was expected. It has electricity, a dual electric stove-top, microwave, coffeemaker, working toilet and shower (water is cold). There is also a small fan, which is crucial during the hot summer days. The bed is comfortable and comes with a top sheet, but it is never a bad idea to bring your own sheet to throw on top.
There is a permanent covering built around the RV that gives an added level of protection and shade. The opening is pointed towards the forest and adjacent berry thicket, which scores major points in the camp vibe category.
This property alone has a ton to offer and the surrounding area also has swimming and hot springs options, which makes this a perfect place to spend a couple days. The site is private and comfortable and is very close to a main trail, which makes this a place I would definitely recommend. The RV is a relic, but from someone who typically tent camps, this was what I would consider glamping.

Collette was extremely generous and kind throughout our stay. It is a camp that is pretty remote with good facilities and a few nice things to do around. If you are looking for adventure do some research before you arrive but if it is family things with children (under 12) then Collette has all the information you need. A great stay that took all of us away from the stresses of work and back to nature. Highly recommended!
