Soak up the wild west history of old-time Azusa as you submerge in the pristine waters of the of the San Gabriel River's East Fork. Take some time out and relax in this gorgeous wooded riverside campsite; come cool off in the fresh waters of the running river and enjoy the soothing canyon breezes in the shade of thick birch, cottonwood, and willow trees.

Hummingbirds, dragonflies, hawks, lizards, snakes, small birds, and coyote abound here alongside the river fish and the abundant trees. It's a slice of genuine off-grid wilderness just 20 minutes outside the city limits.

NOTE: Gold River Paradise is NOT for the faint of heart! Our campsite is walk-in, tent only, with no infrastructure. You must cross a shallow but strong-flowing river to get to the campsite (and carry your gear there also). You must pack in your own water and food, and pack out ALL your trash/waste! Fires require a permit!

Campsite is located just north of Azusa, California, along East Fork Road between Julius Klein Conservation Camp # 19 on the west, and White Rock / Graveyard Canyon to the east.

To access the campsite you will park your vehicle on the public road next to a large oak tree, where you will take a steep footpath down to the riverbed area. It's about 100 feet from the road's edge to the river's edge, and between about 50 and 150 feet into the campsite from the beach on the far side.

MUGWORT MEADOW is a small site and is suitable for a few people with one or two tents. It is very close to the beach area. On your side of the river you'll likely see other HipCampers in their beach sites at THE BERRY PATCH and BIRCH COVE, which are on either side (that is, their beach areas are on either side; their actual tent camp sites are further back under the trees).

Before you go: Search up "East Fork River Prospecting History" on YouTube for videos about the history of gold panning and prospecting at East Fork, from the stagecoach era to the present time.

SUMMERTIME NOTICE: Our property is privately owned, but the north side of the river, and the river itself, is public-access. On hot summer weekends many people come to picnic and swim. Unfortunately they often leave trash, as well.

On a Saturday or Sunday we suggest that you ARRIVE BEFORE 9 a.m. to get close parking and to establish your site along the river at the entrance to your campsite (HipCampers check out at 11, so you may see our departing guests as they go).

We work very hard to keep our land and the campsites utterly clean, so please report to us any trash that you find on our property or around the campsite (and of course take out all your own trash, including pet waste and human waste) -- thanks!

Locals get a 50% discount!

Also -- earn a free night by collecting river trash! Email me directly for details. Thanks!

Cancellation policy: We use HipCamp’s “Super Strict” cancellation policy; please make sure you know what that means before you book. If your plans must change for any reason — a forest fire or flood, you change your mind, your car breaks down, you get lost — you may of course cancel your booking online. I will not cancel bookings because my HipCamp ratings will go down. In appropriate circumstances you may request a refund; however, I will in most cases charge a percent of the booking as a processing fee given the time it takes for me to do these things. Alternatively (and preferably, for us), we will ask you to take a raincheck — we will in some cases (natural disaster etc.) give you double your booking time for a later date, so you get a two-for-one. This allows us to continue paying our clean-up crew. Angeles National Forest unfortunately is deeply underfunded and is not able to keep San Gabriel River free from trash; your patronage helps us make up for this lack in and around our campground.

I was delighted to visit and camp with my family at the Goldriver Paradise Mugwort Meadow. The camp site is located in a National Park, and is rustic and charming in many ways. The location is very private, we were able to find the spot with relative ease since the directions were very clear and accurate. Once we arrived, we pitched our tents and enjoyed the serene meadow. The river is calming, very clean, and enchanted. My kids were inspired to play an elaborate game of 'Pirates and Princes' - a game they made up since they were inspired by the forest. If you are amenable to rustic camping, then this is the ultimate experience. We love to go camping, and this was one of our top experiences - we just wish we had the time to stay a few more days. Our host was easy to communicate with, responded immediately to our messages, and was very helpful and courteous. Thank you, Colene, for your good vibes! We hope to come back soon.

My family and I went to mugwort meadows this past weekend and we had an amazing time. The campsite that we reserved was very spacious and clean. We had fun exploring, and enjoying the fresh water from the river. 10/10 I will definitely be coming back!

We had a great time at the campsite. There weren’t a lot of people around and we were able to swim in the water. Make sure you know where you’re going because there is no service available.

Beautiful! We didn’t end up staying the night because of our plans changing but still had the best few hours relaxing by the clean magical river. Campsite was clean and well maintained. Would have been great to stay. Definitely will recommend and visit again!
