Soak up the wild west history of old-time Azusa as you submerge in the pristine waters of the of the San Gabriel River's East Fork. Take some time out and relax in this gorgeous wooded riverside campsite; come cool off in the fresh waters of the running river and enjoy the soothing canyon breezes in the shade of thick birch, cottonwood, and willow trees.

Hummingbirds, dragonflies, hawks, lizards, snakes, small birds, and coyote abound here alongside the river fish and the abundant trees. It's a slice of genuine off-grid wilderness just 20 minutes outside the city limits.

NOTE: Gold River Paradise is NOT for the faint of heart! Our campsite is walk-in, tent only. You must cross a shallow but strong-flowing river to get to the campsite (and carry your gear there also). You must pack in your own water and food, and pack out ALL your trash! Fires require a permit!

Campsite is located just north of Azusa, California, along East Fork Road between Julius Klein Conservation Camp # 19 on the west, and Whte Rock / Graveyard Canyon to the east.

To access the campsite you will park your vehicle on the public road next to a large oak tree, where you will take a steep footpath down to the riverbed area. It's about 100 feet from the road's edge to the river's edge, and between about 50 and 150 feet into the campsite from the beach on the far side.

COTTONWOOD GROVE is our largest site and is suitable for a lot of people with many tents! It is the most private of our HipCamp sites. However, we suggest you leave a picnic blanket and chair on your beach area, to hold your spot. Especially on busy summer weekends, day-trippers will move in and take up all the available space along the river. (They should not come back in to the campsites; we've never seen them do that. Also feel free ask them to leave the south beach, which is our campground, and stay on the north side, which is the public-access area).

Before you go: Search up "East Fork River Prospecting History" on YouTube for videos about the history of gold panning and prospecting at East Fork, from the stagecoach era to the present time.

SUMMERTIME NOTICE: Our property is privately owned, but the north side of the river, and the river itself, are public-access. On hot summer weekends many people come to picnic and swim. Unfortunately they often leave trash, as well.

On a Saturday or Sunday we suggest that you ARRIVE BEFORE 9 a.m. to get close parking and to establish your site along the river at the entrance to your campsite (HipCampers check out at 11, so you may see our departing guests as they go).

We work very hard to keep our land and the campsites utterly clean, so please report to us any trash that you find on our property or around the campsite (and of course take out all your own trash, including pet waste and human waste) -- thanks!

Locals get a 50% discount; also earn a free night by collecting river trash! Email me directly for details.

Colene was very communicative and helpful, answered all my questions. She was a great host, and we plan on returning. The river was so beautiful. It’s definitely a popular place for day trippers, so we were happy to have the side that was private property. It was apparent that people like to come and stake claim to a space for the day, so we liked that our spot was predesignated. So many great areas for families and Little Ones, areas with shallow pools. We went with friends & had our 1 year olds, and felt very safe. It was great to hear the frogs croaking all night, I never knew how soothing that would sound. And with the river’s constant flow, we all slept solid. Seriously, the baby’s slept so soundly-that was like a vacation in and of itself! It was easy to cross the river with all the stuff we brought, however the incline from the car to the river was truly steep, so that might have us bring less next time. We already discussed returning in the coming weeks. There was trash from day trippers who did not respect the River sadly, so it was nice to be on the side that was privately owned and better maintained.

Lovely to hear that the river soothed the babies to sleep! It reminds me of our first years at the river when our youngest was still in arms -- so magical! Thanks for coming to enjoy this special place! <3

A really fun little campsite! Sitting in the river that has just the right amount of current feels amazing. Can’t wait to go again!
