Soak up the wild west history of old-time Azusa as you submerge in the pristine waters of the of the San Gabriel River's East Fork. Take some time out and relax in this gorgeous wooded riverside campsite; come cool off in the fresh waters of the running river and enjoy the soothing canyon breezes in the shade of thick birch, cottonwood, and willow trees.

Hummingbirds, dragonflies, hawks, lizards, snakes, small birds, and coyote abound here alongside the river fish and the abundant trees. It's a slice of genuine off-grid wilderness just 20 minutes outside the city limits.

NOTE: Gold River Paradise is NOT for the faint of heart! Our campsite is walk-in, tent only, with no infrastructure. You must cross a shallow but strong-flowing river to get to the campsite (and carry your gear there also). You must pack in your own water and food, and pack out ALL your trash/waste! Fires require a permit!

Campsite is located just north of Azusa, California, along East Fork Road between Julius Klein Conservation Camp # 19 on the west, and White Rock / Graveyard Canyon to the east.

To access the campsite you will park your vehicle on the public road next to a large oak tree, where you will take a steep footpath down to the riverbed area. It's about 100 feet from the road's edge to the river's edge, and between about 50 and 150 feet into the campsite from the beach on the far side.

THE BERRY PATCH is a medium-sized site suitable for a group with about 1-3 tents. It has a charming beach area from which you might view other HipCampers from MUGWORT MEADOW and BIRCH COVE at their beach areas, located to the east of BERRY PATCH along the river's edge (their camp sites are further back under the trees).

Before you go: Search up "East Fork River Prospecting History" on YouTube for videos about the history of gold panning and prospecting at East Fork, from the stagecoach era to the present time.

SUMMERTIME NOTICE: Our property is privately owned, but the north side of the river, and the river itself, is public-access. On hot summer weekends many people come to picnic and swim. Unfortunately they often leave trash, as well.

On a Saturday or Sunday we suggest that you ARRIVE BEFORE 9 a.m. to get close parking and to establish your site along the river at the entrance to your campsite (HipCampers check out at 11, so you may see our departing guests as they go).

We work very hard to keep our land and the campsites utterly clean, so please report to us any trash that you find on our property or around the campsite (and of course take out all your own trash, including pet waste and human waste) -- thanks!

Locals get a 50% discount!

Also earn a free night by collecting river trash! Email me directly for details. Thanks!

Cancellation policy: We use HipCamp’s “Super Strict” cancellation policy; please make sure you know what that means before you book. If your plans must change for any reason — a forest fire or flood, you change your mind, your car breaks down, you get lost — you may of course cancel your booking online. I will not cancel bookings because my HipCamp ratings will go down. In appropriate circumstances you may request a refund; however, I will in most cases charge a percent of the booking as a processing fee given the time it takes for me to do these things. Alternatively (and preferably, for us), we will ask you to take a raincheck — we will in some cases (natural disaster etc.) give you double your booking time for a later date, so you get a two-for-one. This allows us to continue paying our clean-up crew. Angeles National Forest unfortunately is deeply underfunded and is not able to keep San Gabriel River free from trash; your patronage helps us make up for this lack in and around our campground.

The campsite was absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, right after we got there my dog (whom is almost 15) his back legs, due to arthritis, went out so we where unable to stay for our time that we wanted. I let the camp host know so she could find more campers, and she was ver nice and told us to let her know and we could stay at a later date. I wasn’t expecting that, and it was very appreciated. Hopefully soon we can reschedule the stay. It was very clean in the camp site, and my daughter was looking forward to it.

Unfortunately due to some unforeseen issues, my group was unable to make it to the campsite. Throughout this process Colene remained accessible and helpful even helping us find other camping. Thumbs up super great communication.

Beautiful spot by the river, the sounds of The water rushing over and between the log damn was perfectly soothing! the spot where you are intended to put your tent was rocky, so be sure to bring sleeping pad or several!

Thanks Kendall! We'll be working on taking out some of those rocks ... but meanwhile, I hope you got to pick some berries to eat! Lots of campers have mentioned the delicious berries ...

Our camping was schedule to take place at Colene's place on August 21-23, but unfortunately this was when a part of the Angeles Forest was on fire, thus on strict first-ban. Because we could not use any kind of fire--no campfire, no cooking stove, etc--we wanted to cancel our camping. When discussed this issue with Colene, she was kind enough to issue a partial refund I requested and responded fairly and warmly. She was such a great host!
