Beautiful but lots of yellowjackets
Let me first start with the pros.. The lake was very picturesque, the volunteers that assist with the campground were incredibly helpful and Frank (of Frank’s Diner) was not only an incredible chef but a good human being and he always had wood and ice ready to go! The lake was the perfect temperature to swim and it was crystal clear! The views from our campsite, absolutely outstanding... Now for the cons... the space T16 was the only campsite in the entire campground that was not maintained. The brush was over run all around it. I was a little concerned that a stray ember could ignite the whole area. And the biggest downer was the relentless Yellow Jackets!! That specific camp spot is between two large Yellowjacket nests. If you camp anywhere in this campground, bring Yellowjacket traps. But even the traps did not stop us from having sting casualties. My son was stung 5 times and my daughter in law was stung 4 times. And if you plan on cooking during daylight.. forget about it. You will absolutely be stung. Keep in mind, we also made sure not to leave food out, and kept our trash 20 feet from our camping area. If you plan on eating breakfast and lunch at Frank’s, and only cooking after dark for dinner, you should do just fine. The area is truly spectacular.
Finnon lake is gorgeous, we stayed in A9. We did have the campground almost entirely to ourselves but I wouldn’t hesitate to go back. Geese can be a little loud at night but it was entertaining.
