We had a much needed escape to this peaceful spot in western Sonoma. The campsites are mown areas located on cattle farmland along the banks of a winding Estero, where we happily paddled our canoe and picked blackberries. The landscape is open with rolling hills. The sites are at least 100 yards apart and while Swallow was open the other sites have trees for privacy. Some have fire rings but ours didn’t, and the property doesn’t always allow fires. Guido and Emily were responsive, the directions and signage were clear, and the composting toilet facility was immaculate! You can order meat and eggs from the farm for your stay - we had ribeyes and eggs that were delicious. This was our first Hipcamp and we look forward to more!

The site was beautiful and very comfortable! The compost toilet was in great condition and the ground was soft to camp on.

Peaceful pretty spot. Just a large grassy field along the estuary. Quiet and undisturbed which is remarkable considering the number of people who camp there. It was unclear how many sites there are...maybe 8 or 10. Other campsites are in view but far enough apart not to be heard. The only improvement is a composting toilet. It was immaculate. We did not meet the host. Info from Hip Camp said no check in needed.
In a great area near the beach where it's difficult to get a reservation and there is nothing inexpensive to be had, paying $40 for a campsite is a great find. There is a sense of nature and the outdoors without the crowding like in public campgrounds.
Poor signage. It was hard to tell which was our campsite. We set up and then I realized that we were probably in the wrong spot.

Great location! Cows and roosters made us feel like we were really on a farm. The foccocia bread from the farm was delicious! We were so close to the beach and lots of different farm stands and wineries! Lots of fun!

I fell asleep to the sound of cows, crickets and the creek next to swallow nest :). It was a great, easy stay, especially during covid. Thank you Guido and Emily! The focaccia was delicious too.

We had a really really beautiful, peaceful and happy camping experience at swallows nest. It was private and quiet. The view was incredible. The estuary was so fantastic to paddle around on. We loved our neighbor cows. The facilities that were available were clean and well-maintained. We will definitely return if we are able. It was a quick and easy drive to town or the Beach. We really could not have hope for more!

Overall would recommend. Private enough if you have a van to block views Into site, but relatively open. One secluded spot to pitch tent, but plenty of room to pitch multiple tents in open.

Great site if you are looking to quickly launch a kayak and take a leisurely paddle on a very still river. I did and would assume the water has a good deal of farm runoff and proper precautions should be taken. We had a camp shower with us to Clean off leaving the river.

The site itself is in the middle of a grass field inrolling hills of a ranch. Horses Cows and Birds abound.

The only negative, which should be clearly stated in the site description, is it is within open view within 75ft of a through site. Luckily the sprinter van that showed up there in the evening was only noisy during camp setup.

Facts to plan for (not negative or positive): Windy much of the time. Foggy overnight so keep a jacket and leggings for night runs. If you want to truly distance during stay, bring your own portable bathroom setup as we did and pack it out. Plenty of space to set up a pop up and a luggable liu,

Gorgeous, peaceful, rustic, easy to access. Really good spot for van or tent camping. Our daughter was entertained by picking blackberries and mooing at the cows. Some sites don’t have a fire ring, and the water spigots were communal so we met some of our neighbor campers to share. The compostable toilet was unexpectedly nice! Never got smelly or messy, all other campers were diligent and responsible about using it properly and it was cleaned and restocked regularly by the host. We spent the day at point Reyes between our 2 nights at swallows nest and egrets nest.
