What an epic location. We arrived early afternoon to Edge of The Wilderness. It was a nice, brisk day - not too hot, not too cold. Joe could not have been more accommodating. You can tell that he really cares about the property, and wants folks to get the absolute most out of it. The space is cozy and the view is GORGEOUS. You are literally staring out into the wilderness - it's so quiet, you could hear a pin drop. The sunset creates various hues of gorgeous color on the land: purple, pinks, oranges, etc. We walked towards the desert mountains as the sun was setting and pouring down its rays to the sandy earth. We couldn't build a fire since it was a bit windy; however, there is a nice fire-pit by the property that works well! Once it was dark, we were off to the eccentric Palms Restaurant. Palms Restaurant is about 10 minutes from the property. There was pool, live music, good (cheap) food, and tons of interesting people. We spoke with some visitors and regulars - everyone was really kind and interesting to talk to. We hung a hammock from beams within the cabin's frame, and snoozed all night long. Could not recommend this unique experience more!
This place was incredible! Pretty secluded, you could see a few neighboring homes way in the distance. The mountains surrounding the spot were unbelievably pretty, and we saw so many stars at night. Joe was really nice and even offered to take us out in a sandrail! We are 100% coming back.
i've shared my thoughts with Joe and i feel like he should let people know my thoughts, in a way that he feels appropriate. it was not the most peaceful camping experience i've had, so i can't give a glowing review.
This was an incredibly unique location with an undeniably beautiful view. Basically, it's just the concrete foundation of a home in the middle of the desert, that Joe lets people stay on. It has a nice post-apocalyptic feeling, if you're into that kind of thing (which you should be), and leaves people with a sense of freedom that's unique to other kinds of camping spots. We really dug it.
Need to get away? Do you and your camp mates prefer isolation? Want an amazing, unobstructed view of the mountains? Then Edge of the Wilderness is where you want to go. Joe (the host) was very helpful, meeting us at the nearby Palms restaurant and guiding us through the dirt road to the cabin due to my concerns of getting my car stuck. The drive wasn't bad at all, and only adds to the sense of adventure of being out in the wild. There's a firepit, chairs, tables, portable toilet... there is even an EZUP if you need shade. The property itself is quite large (5 acres); large enough for my dog to run around off leash without worry of coming across anyone or any thing. This is truly one of the most unique places I have ever camped. Joe is very accommodating and it's comforting to know he's just a phone call away if you need anything. Besides the actual campsite, the location is second to none. The north entrance to Joshua Tree National Park is only 20-30ish minutes away as well as stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc. We would definitely stay here again!
We really had such an amazing time at this spot. Felt so at peace here. Joe was such a nice host and was nice enough to show us the way in. Highly recommend, definitely would love to come back. Good eats -Palms restaurant just nearby.
Joe, the owner, was awesome. So kind and helpful. He really made the experience special. The property is very cool. Very private. Though pretty darn windy when we stayed we still had a marvelous time. Only 25 min from Joshua Tree Nation Park.
