Just spent two night's at Mustang Chalet on Running Horse Ranch. Took my two kids 22 and 18 and some of their friends for an outdoor adventure - eight total. We typically pitch our own tents but decided to try something a little different this trip. The horse ranch is a lovely, well kept property set in the foothills. The mountains are on one side and the desert visible off in the distance. The ranch provides plenty of privacy, with space to roam, beautiful sunrise and sunset views and access to hiking trails. A variety of horses from miniatures to workhorses run freely in a large fenced area, goats roam and there are a variety of other farm pets. The 4 guest rooms set-up side by side were rustic but comfortable with a large front porch connecting them all. There is a small kitchen and a bathroom/shower. Other campers have access to the bathroom through the kitchen, so you will meet some fellow campers staying in other places on the property this way. There was a picnic table, large fire pit/ring and a grill set up for our use, right in front of the porch. A fun fearure is the "cowboy pool," a large cicular water trough set up right in front the cabin. Fill it up with the hose and enjoy a refreshing dip on a warm day. Daniella, the owner, who lives in the main ranch house (connected to the Mustang Chalet) was very accessible and helpful. She provided us with suggestions of things to do in the area, drew us hand made maps of hiking trails and even came/drove over to help us find the trail head, when we were unable to access it. The teens/young adults enjoyed: hiking a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail that is just minutes away, feeding carrots to the horses and other farm animals, kicking back on the shady porch, roasting marshmallows around the campfire, exploring the property and cooling off in the cowboy pool. For an extra fee you can also take a trail ride on horseback or rent the quad atvs. We experienced dramatic weather changes in the 2.5 days we were there and enjoyed the eerie fog rolling in, as much as we enjoyed the warm sunshine and blue skies. The rooms were equipped with heaters that kept us very comfortable on the first evening that was very cold. We had a wonderful time and would definitely go back again. It is a great way to have a camping experience withouth the added work of pitching tents.
I felt immeasurably happy with our evening at Daniela’s. The rooms were quaint and well kept, the kitchen & bathroom had everything we needed, and the surrounding ranch was stunning.
We did an ATV tour with Daniela as well and it was the highlight of our vacation so far! Such a cool experience and epic vistas. She was a perfect tour guide. I already want to go back. Dreamy desert.
I loved staying at the Mustang Ranch. It has the most beautiful views, it's completely quiet and Daniela is super nice, helpful and also of course amazing with horses. I went on a one hour trail ride and it was the best trail ride experience I ever had. Definitely want to come back to ride and stay! Thank you Daniela!
We booked Just ons night but it was great. We stayed in number 4. The directions to get to the place were clear, still not easy to find the exact spot but in return it’s peace and quiet. Checkin was simple, friendly and easy. Went for great hike very close to the place and in the evening visited the local pub for drinks, food and live music. The next morning we went for horse riding. Great instructions and beautiful nature, just great. Overall fun place with animals in beautiful nature. Thanks Daniela.
Such an amazing and magical place. Beautiful getaway for a short or long trip from Los Angeles. Will for sure be back another time. Beautifully kept facility and home. Daniela was super attentive, sweet, and helpful. Highlight recommend. Excited to come back!
Very nice place and friendly host. Decor had a very homey feel and the place was kept clean. Beautiful views of high desert forest canopies and hiking areas nearby with access to the pacific coast trail. Antelope Valley Poppy Preserve just a short drive away. Very friendly dog came to greet us in the morning. Bed was comfortable and the electric blanet keep us warm all night. Kitchen had limited space and limted pots and pans but contained all the essentials for cooking. Would definitely stay again.
Delightful stay on the ranch!
What a wonderful camping experience, with some extra frills! The property is gorgeous and Daniela is super chill and helpful. 85 during the day and 60 at night, the shaded porch and cowboy tub kept us cool...and the propane fire pit kept us warm (fire season so no wood - small fee for the propane). Plates, silverware and a few pots and pans provided as well as a little coffee maker, as well as lots of clean towels for the shower. Be sure to bring all the rest of your cooking gear/salt pepper oils etc with you.
We went ATVing around the property with was AMAZING. Wear long sleeves and pants if you want to avoid scratches and poison oak, but other than that it was super rad. Daniela is a great host!
Hiked Snake something trail (check AllTrails) about a mile away which was really pretty and took under 2 hours and is partially shaded. Convenience store/market about 15 mins away for ice and extras that don’t fit in the mini fridge!
