**** We are excited to provide you with a peaceful, family-friendly vibe and kindly ask that you please read all rules carefully ****

We are located on a working farm in one of the last old oak groves in Descanso with well over 200 trees!  Your campsite backs up to the Cleveland National Forest and affords amazing seclusion and quiet.  At night, the stars abound and you'll fall asleep to the sounds of crickets and owls.  We are nestled in oaks, pines, and cottonwoods along with lots of shade and some boulders.  There's a nice large field adjacent to your site where you can have an epic evening ballgame with the kids or have a picnic.  There is abundant space to stretch out!  Our farm friends include chickens, roosters, turkeys,  bees, goats, alpaca, and a livestock guardian dog that watches over them all faithfully in their large fenced in area.   Although the farm animals are all 100 yards away from your site, you may hear them during your stay.  Please enjoy the animals from a distance.  We are happy to provide you with a Farm Tour in the "add-on" section of reservations!  They love to have visitors!!

Description of Camp Site:

Gorgeous, large flat area with lots of shade under an old oak tree.  Unobstructed back-country serenity.  Get out of the city for some serious relaxing!  We pride ourselves on providing our guests with peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.  Lounge peacefully in  your hammock at sunset to gaze out over the meadow while you enjoy abundant wildlife and the sounds of nature.

Our meticulously clean campsite comes with a 8' picnic table, hammock and plenty of flat space to put your tent, van, camper or tiny trailer.   Lots of room / easy to back in your trailer.

This campsite hosts a total of 6 people.   You have exclusive use during your stay of our private bath house a short walk from your site.   It includes an outdoor shower with instant hot & cold water, a compost toilet and outdoor sink.

***If you would like to travel with another family and group camp, please contact us to discuss renting out our entire camping area for EXCLUSIVE & PRIVATE use of both of our camp sites.

Communication & WiFi:

We encourage our guests to unplug and enjoy nature.  Come prepared to camp!  We DO NOT recommend trying to work from this camp site if you need internet or phone!  We have a table and chair set up under a tree near our residence  (100 yds away) if you need to quickly make a phone call or check your email.

Getting here/Location:

*Specific driving directions will be provided before your stay.  PLEASE WRITE DOWN THE DIRECTIONS BEFORE LEAVING YOUR HOUSE and use the directions we provide, NOT THE HIP CAMP MAP OR DIRECTIONS!

***********I CAN NOT EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH!!!!!!!!***********You will lose cellular & GPS service 5 miles from our location!!   We are in a RUSTIC LOCATION, down a country dirt road and it is VERY EASY TO GET LOST!

Please arrive before sunset.  Just in case you get lost and to avoid unpacking in total darkness, we ask that you arrive at least an hour before sundown. *Check-ins after 7:00pm are NOT ACCEPTED  unless by prior coordination and agreement by both parties.

On your way to the site, you will drive through the Sweetwater River during the wet season (Dec-June).  The riverbed is currently dry and IF there is no rain in the forecast,  the campsite is accessible by most vehicles.  If your car is lowered and doesn't have enough clearance, it may be a rough ride.    A seasonal creek also runs into the Sweetwater River down the length of our property (Dec-April).

Activities:

Descanso means "Place of Rest".   Our wish for you is that your soul replenishes while you meander through our Cuyamaca Mountain community and arrive at your camp site.

If you aren't one to sit around for very long-  you can hike the trail on our property or hike nearby trailheads.   The "California Riding and Hiking Trail" can be accessed from the road at the back of the property.  After a steep climb up the first hill, the rest is smooth sailing (great to get your heart pumping)!

Our property backs up to the Cleveland National Forest and Cuyamaca Rancho State Park where premier riding and hiking abound!  Bring your mountain bike or horses (please specifically note if you are bringing horses in your reservation request in the "add-ons") to access nearby trails.  If you enjoy light or serious hiking, there are MANY choices nearby.

Camp Rules:

- Be courteous and respectful of the desire that others may have for health, safety, and social distancing during these times of COVID-19.  We only have 2 camp sites total and we expect guests at both sites to maintain 6' distancing.  I'm sure that you will find that there is plenty of space to stretch out without masks!!

-2 vehicles allowed at the campsite

-Please arrive before sunset. We are in a  RUSTIC LOCATION & phone signal is spotty.   To avoid setting up in total darkness, we ask that you arrive at least an hour before sundown. *Check-ins after 7:00pm are NOT ACCEPTED without prior coordination and agreement by both parties.

*****Out of respect for other campers and our wonderful neighbors, we have a VERY FIRM  "quiet" time between 10:00 pm and 7:00 am.

- We are located on a working farm!  Our farm friends include chickens, roosters, turkeys, goats, alpaca, and a livestock guardian dog that watches over them all.   You may both hear animals during your stay here.  As your hosts, we want you to be safe and enjoy your stay, therefore please DO NOT approach or attempt to pet any of the animals unless escorted by one of us.

-Our bee hive area is clearly marked and off limits to guests.  Please keep your distance!

-We are a family friendly establishment but we understand the desire to unwind and have some fun.   If anyone in your party will be drinking alcohol,  PLEASE do so with discretion and WITHIN YOUR OWN CAMPSITE.

Absolutely phenomenal getaway at Deer Valley! We could not have had a better stay. The hosts, Scott and Kerri, were phenomenal - incredibly warm, welcoming and thoughtful. The site was spic and span, they drove up to greet us a mile or two away from the site twice (even though our group we arrived staggered), they anticipated our needs and provided little add-ones like a table for dish washing and their communication was stellar. The site itself was gorgeous, set in the valley, there are beautiful views all around, lots of shade, nice outdoor amenities like picnic tables, chairs, a hammock etc ... and the outhouse they constructed was the best we have ever seen! It was perfect temperature to camp and we saw several shooting stars at night! The kids had a great time on the farm tour seeing the animals and harvesting delicious vegetables! All in all it was a very memorable trip. Thank you Scott and Keri for your wonderful hospitality! We can’t wait to be back
