Wow! This place is so great!! Steve was such a gracious host, he greeted us right when we arrived and showed us his beautiful property that included multiple flat tent spaces in amongst the garden, a bathroom on site, and best of all the creek that runs along the back of his property. Steve was playing a gig in town the night we stayed so he graciously invited us to watch, and we are glad that we did!! We had such a great time getting to watch Steve jam with his fellow musician friends. They were all so welcoming and happy to talk and share with us!! In addition to getting to hang with the local musicians in town, we also got a chance to plug our guitar into an amp and make a little music of our own right on site! We also found time to lounge in the creek swimming holes before the show, which was such a treat when it came to beating the California summer heat! The property was private and secluded and the only neighbors we seemed to notice were the donkeys right next door that provided our all natural alarm call in the morning. All in all this was a fabulous stay with a fabulous host!! We hope to be back soon!
Stephen is such a lovely person. BEAUTIFUL garden, oak trees, private and shaded. Lots of level grass spots to set up tent. Mesmerizing, tranquil waters of private part of a stream. Peaceful. Excellent night’s sleep.
We had a great stay at Stephen's! His property is perfect for a quiet campsite and relaxing by the creek. We also loved listening to his music on the drive to Lassen the next day, thanks for sharing! Would highly recommend staying at Stephen's!
Stephen was a wonderful host! Very friendly guy with a very nice property! We had access to a tables and chairs, access to a beautiful creek behind the property, and it was at a great location, near beautiful waterfalls, forests, trails, and the city of Reading. He provides access to a bathroom with shower which exceeded our expectations. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a nice quiet place to camp in the Shasta area.
Loved the site! We were traveling from SoCal and needed a place to crash, Stephen’s place was easy and beautiful. Perfect place to stop on road trips. Stephen was a wonderful host - he even shared some of his music with us.
Musical creek magic
Camping by the creek was beyond my expectations! I arrived to an easily accessible and well-maintained beautiful property. Under the tree was a table and chair set out, along with a mini fire pit stocked full of firewood and newspaper to get started. I set up my tent and walked down to the creek...which was seriously rushing full and looking much more like a roaring river! Steve is a fantastic host that takes really good care of his land. He cut out little paths and has an amazing variety of herbs that he even shared with me. (Fresh lemon balm....soooo nice!) The downstairs of his home is open to use the bathroom and shower and I am thrilled to say that I got to meet his cat :) I actually ended up staying around the area to explore and Steve showed me a great hike and swimming hole a few minutes away. I also got to share some apples with the horses! The camping spot is in his yard so the house is seen and there are neighbors, but it is on a back road. Other than a few cars driving by once in a while, I could hear his neighbors band practicing which was pretty cool and ended not too long after it started. This is not a secluded site, but I enjoyed every moment. Steve is a talented musician and I very much look forward to coming back again, especially when it's warmer to go swimming!
Serenaded by the creek
Steven was so kind to help us settle in after a very late and frustrating arrival ( note to self: don’t rely on cell phone when camping off the grid!). He offered so many extras to help our young weary travelers and the next morning at daybreak... WOW what a lovely camp area by the creek Steve has carved out. Surrounded by herb gardens and fruit trees, there are mowed paths in the native grasses for easy exploration and to the creek. Our grandkids loved skipping rocks and if time had allowed we would have dipped in the swimming hole. Thank you Steve for sharing your space, your music, your warm hospitality. This was our first hipcamp experience- an adventure and fun memory.
