The vibe at Camp Windhorse

Wind horse was amazing. There are 3 tipis in a row on a hill and this one is in the middle but hands down the best view and most privacy of the three. The staff was great and the site was clean. There is a catch and release pond, hiking/walking trails, horse back riding, kayak rentals ect. I love about 30 mins away in the same county and never knew about this spot... For sure needs to be known! I looked at other tipis for rent and they didn't close all around which had me worried about snakes but this one was really closed up AND it has a fire pit inside which others don't. It does get a little smoky but not when sitting or lying down and noting you wouldn't expect for lighting a fire inside. I never do reviews but after last nights stay I just had to because it was a blast
This Tipi has a million dollar view of the Sonoma coast! It's a steep walk down the hill to the showers and water. That was the only problem! When there gets to be a ton of campers the bathroom line gets full. We loved the experience though and the views! Staying in the tipi was super fun for our boys! I'd totally recommend staying here. You have to at least stay in a tipi once in your life!
We loved our stay at Chanslor Ranch! Windhorse tipi was a fun experiences for the entire group (3 adults, a black lab, and one adorable 4 year old!) The staff was great, the view would have been spectacular if the fog had ever burned off, but that is the risk with summer on the coast. We spent the second night at the newest site- Rocky Hilltop #2- which gave us a great rock cropping to explore, a full view of the ocean and town in the distance, and easy access to the trail that winds around the property. In the morning we even caught a glimpse of the llama. The bathroom/shower trailer is awesome and would entice even "non-camping" people (think of your very pampered parents!) to reserve a spot. We would absolutely recommend a trip here for any of the tipis or either Rocky Hill spots. We imagine that all of the options are great and have their own charm. Plans for a return stay are already underway!
My boyfriend and I camped here during our camping trip through out California. We are from Texas so camping in Cali was a whole new experience! This is by far one of our favorite campsites. We were exhausted and chose to stay in a teepee, which was an excellent choice! There are three tepees you can choose from and all three are on top of a hill that overlooks the ranch and has an ocean view. Sonoma coast is beautiful. There are pebble beaches and sand beaches with beautiful rock formations. Some beach entrances are more accessible than others and some allow dogs on a leash (which was perfect because we brought our dog). The ranch is dog friendly too, they just ask you to keep them on a leash for the security of their horses. The women that checked us in was super friendly (I wish I could remember her name because she contributed greatly to this review): she showed us the land with maps, told us info about our teepee, and gave us a hand out of bodega bay that informed us of the dog- friendly beaches. The beach is within walking distance. The land is amazing! There is a spring that feeds to a creek that flows around the ranch, you can choose to kayak it too. The creek water is advertised as a hotspring, but really it is cold. There might be a hotspring somewhere that feeds into the creek, but I would not expect it to be hot. The trails are so beacutiful, we saw rabbits, a little snake, Hawks, and lizards. You can also chose to go on a horse back ride with a guide. The campsites are well spread out for privacy and they do allow campsite fires. You can buy wood from them or bring your own. A shower fee is included and there is access to toilets and porter potties. Any campsite you pick seems pretty neat considering the ranch had a lot to offer.
Great fun! I loved sleeping in a teepee. Great to have 4 wheel drive for this one as not possible to get my 2 wheel drive up the hill into the parking spot for the site - so steep and soft dirt.) Bathrooms are clean and the views are great. Loved hearing the ocean waves all night from a distance.
The tipi camp is great and I would highly recommend it! Conveniently located just north of Bodega Bay with amazing coast views from every camp site. The camp sits on the bluff and is exposed to the wind so be prepared for that, but otherwise no complaints! We camped in a rain storm and we stayed totally dry since the tents are on concrete/wood settings.

These tipis are also pretty well closed around the edges which I haven't found at other tipi rental spots also it has a fire pit inside which was really cool. It does get smoky but not too bad and not at all if your sitting to lying down. I never do reviews but felt like I had to after last nights stay!
