The vibe at Camp Elk
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
This site was awesome - amazing sunsets, close to amenities, and great access to the land. Chanslor Ranch was a great find. Recommendation, though - buy wood in Bodega Bay - it's cheaper ;)
Also, didn't have any trouble with them, but saw raccoons on our second night. Keep your food locked up!
Beautiful view, a ways up the hill but not too far a walk to the toilets, and a very clean campsite. The tipi was functional, which we didn't expect, and surprisingly cool during the heat of the day. The ranch itself was clogged with people but apparently that's unusual. This is a really cool place to camp and we will be back.
We had an awesome stay in one of the Tipis. The host was very accomodating when we had a few last minute campers join our group. We didn't realize that the fire pit was going to be inside the Tipi, and recommend sitting low on the ground to avoid smoke. There are plenty of places to hike nearby, and local restaurants a short drive down the road. We loved all the horses!
I would definitely camp here again! The Elk site had the most incredible views. We ended up sitting there for hours just watching the horseback riders, the ocean, and the sunset. It was a very spacious site and had a nice flat portion for the tent. There was a picnic table and a fire pit. The bathrooms were very clean and a quick walk from the site and there was a spigot for potable water.
Great spot. I used the Direct Book function with Hipcamp but apparently got double-booked with another party, sadly. Chanslor Ranch staff were very accommodating, and we got placed in another fantastic tent cabin up the hill. I'd recommend future guests to call ahead of time and double-check that your reservation isn't a duplicate.
We have camped at Chanslor Ranch before and had a magical weekend. This time we stayed in one of the tipis and unfortunately it had not been cleaned/maintained in a few days or weeks. The carpets were muddy, wet, and in a pile in the corner. There was all sorts of debris inside and there was trash left in the fire pit. We may camp here again but will avoid the tipi☹️
