The vibe at Camp Buffalo

Buffalo Tipi is the most private of the tipis. It's nestled at the back between trees, overlooking pastures and the ocean. There are fire pits inside and outside of the tipi, plus a picnic table. Make sure you've got 4WD if you plan on driving right to the site; it's at the top of a steep, dirt road.
Buffalo tipi is awesome! The ranch is a huge property with several camping spots, the tipi sites being toward the front, but you still have to lug your stuff up a small hill. There are pigs and cows roaming the field! It's so awesome. There's also a great view of the ocean and the property is so beautiful. It's truly a gem. I went on a cold, windy, and rainy day and it was still awesome if you can deal with the weather.
Very tranquil and beautiful setting - only a 15 min walk to the beach. Please note that there are not fire pits inside the tipis - the pictures are misleading. Also, the staff seemed a bit disorganized. No information was provided on what hikes, attractions were available in the area and the checkout process lacked even a pretense of graciousness or thoughtfulness. If you are looking for a plot of land and a good photo op, this place is great - but not really worth the price tag.
Pros: Great view, the tipi was warmer than a tent, the marsh was fun to hike around. The staff was friendly, when we saw them.
Cons: The hill was very windy, making it hard to hang out and have a fire (smoke blew every which way). The fire pit didn't have a grill, so cooking over the fire wasn't possible. The office was often unstaffed. The horseback riding operation on the farm was also super understaffed and disorganized.
Overall, it was an interesting experience but we probably wouldn't go back.
Our stay at Chanslor Ranch was amazing! The views from the property are awesome. There are also very friendly cows, lamas and horses on the property. The gentleman at the check-in was also very helpful and welcomed us to pet the animals and grab eggs from the chicken coop in the morning. There are also tons of hikes on the property as well as around the area. There are also grocery stores and restaurants maybe a 5 min drive from Chanslor Ranch. Overall, we had a great time and can't wait to go back!
