Magical, mystical, enchanting
This land is absolutely magical. Eray is a lovely host and dedicated to creating the perfect little camping spot! There's a great trail and beautiful trees...never seen such a high density of Joshua trees before. It's the perfect blend of camping with added amenities...Hipcamp has a lot of "glamping" sites, so we were excited to find a chill, lowkey, spot priced reasonably.
Total hidden gem
Wow. So much to say! I had no idea what was awaiting us based on the listing - while the few reviews that were there were positive, the photos & description didn't do this place any justice. It's definitely off the beaten path, and that's a good thing. No neighbors / noises / light pollution - just NATURE in many directions. Eray was amazing (and his sister & dad were pretty lovely too) - he met us at the end of the super rural where the campsite lies, to direct us/our car to our individual site & parking spot. He and his family have created a super cute little camping oasis in the middle of seemingly nowhere. Using found stuffs (wood palettes, rocks, surrounding flowers/plants), the individual campsites feel comfortable without being too produced. Surrounding juniper trees provide shade and killer hammock posts, picnic tables give ample space for chilling & eating, a sink + soap for washing hands AND a sink + soap for washing cookware (complete with drying rack), a dedicated cooking area with table space & spots for your charcoal/propane grills, TWO flush toilets and an outdoor shower provide some essential comforts to what could be a very rough rural camping experience. Eray's dad did a LOT of exploring & excavating in and around the campsites, and Eray took us on a guided hike to a gorgeous Manzanita tree grove and around more of the property to a burn site where Joshua trees were bleached white by a decade old fire. The surrounding area is perfect for sunset and early morning hikes (summer is HOT out there!), which means you don't have to get in your car and leave to explore - a huge huge bonus. We were only there for one overnight stay, but could've done a full weekend there and we'll absolutely be back. Bonus - its literally 15 minutes from Devil's Punchbowl, which is a pretty cool hike with a running creek even in the summer. Hipcamp served up a winner this time! Eray - we'll be back soon!!
Lemons to lemonade!
Eray was so kind and accommodating for our family. When we arrived late in the afternoon others had taken the site we’d booked. The only available site was too small for our very large tent and a little too close to all of the camp action...we’d requested a more private site just bc we had a dog and toddler and knew they’d be up very early plus it seemed harder to social distance in the site that was available. After trying (and failing) to fit our tent in the available site we almost called it quits but Eray and his dad took us to another area of the property a bit more removed from the central camp area...and it was perfect! About a 5 minute walk from the designated sites it was remote and allowed us to easily social distance and could fit our tent. They were so nice and helpful when the original plans didn’t work out and the property was beautiful.
We spent a wonderful time camping here. The place is gorgeous and super quiet, Eray is very friendly and helped us find our way to the campground (you acces to a quite long dirt road but it was OK even with a prius). Surrounded by Joshua trees and view on mountains, it was all we needed!
No drinking water but sink and toilet available.
Thanks again Eray!
Always a great time at eray's!
Had to come BACK and bring the WHOLE SQUAD this time. We love Camp Manzanita! Amazing location with awesome areas to explore and the perfect amount of amenities while still having the classic camping feel. Also, being soo close to Devil's Punchbowl is just another plus! This is truly a favorite spot :)
Cute little campsite!
This campsite is awesome! Each individual space is named after animals, and each is decorated different than the others. It's small little decorations that fit with nature, so it doesn't take away from anything. There are two flushing toilets as well as a sink for hand/face washing. If you happen to forget something, there is a small market with essential items about 10 minutes away. Eray is incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful, and I would definitely camp here again.
Great campsite, great host.
The campsite was beautiful with many Juniper trees and I believe Joshua trees or trees that look like Joshua trees? Pretty sure they're Joshua trees, but anyways it was very beautiful. It was also perfect for stargazing and sunsets are just amazing here. Their hiking trail leads to a cliff and you scream "yaho" and it'll echo back to you. Again, so beautiful.
The host was very helpful. My boyfriend and I got lost bc we didn't look at the instructions prior to the trip. We were just following the navi which sent us to a wrong direction. When we asked him for help with directions, he just drove out and guided us to the site.
Overall, it was a great experience with the nature, not too far from home, but not too close either. It is perfect to get away from the city for awhile.
