Lovely low-frills campground
I had a great 2 nights at Camp Jackson. Quincy was kind enough to show me a couple open sites to pick from, and he gave me directions to a good launch point for paddle boarding. It's definitely a minimal-frills campground, although I very much appreciated the porta-potties and hand-washing stations. So if you're just looking for a place to set up a tent and relax a while, this is a solid choice. If I could make one change, it would be to put some firm rules in place about noise, as there was a group playing loud music until the wee hours. Other than that, no complaints.
Quincy was wonderful, very accommodating and gracious. He was very responsive and was willing to go the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable. My issue was with the site itself. First of all Clearlake is not the place to camp if you are looking to do any in-water sports. I would not let my dog go into the water let alone my body. If you can rent a boat, it would be fine but otherwise I wouldn’t touch the water with a ten foot pole. Next since it was pretty close to town and a holiday weekend there was a lot of noise at night. There is a road on both sides of the camp site that contributes to noise and we were pretty close to other groups that were blasting music all night long. So long story long, if you are looking for a nice chill, quiet camping trip with kids, then this could work on a non-holiday weekend. Like I said the host was awesome, I just wish it were a little easier to sleep at night with more activities to enjoy during the day.
