Awesome, secluded getaway!
Incredible first Hipcamp experience staying at Quincy and John’s new “Camp Jackson” on Clear Lake. We stayed there during the first weekend they opened. Incredible vistas of the lake and ability to explore the peninsula. Such chill hosts who showed us around and offered us sanitizer, wipes, anything we needed. Felt like home — a secret gem away from the hustle/bustle of the city and without the clutter of traditional campsites. We didn’t take advantage of stargazing or other activities but sounds like they are really building out their offerings. Highly recommend!
I had a great time camping at camp Jackson. Since it had just opened I had the whole place to myself and got to choose my site. The next night I tried a new one just for fun! There are beautiful views of clear lake and the surrounding mountains. Quincy was a communicative host he greeted me then left me to my privacy. This is a spot with many sites but they are more spread out than a traditional campground making it an excellent option for pretty much the same price. Portapotties through out (less the further you go) and a few benches and tables. It should be noted to get to the campsites further from the front (2 of which I stayed at and some other really nice ones) you will need 4wd/AWD.
Host and site are fantastic
First of all, Quincy is fantastic. He was communicative, super helpful and gave us insights we couldn’t have found elsewhere.
Also the sites are beautiful. You won’t find a better view of the lake anywhere.
However, the area is super hot and you can’t swim in the lake due to pollution and algae (or at least it’s not recommended). Quincy gave us some great backup plans and saved our weekend (we had two toddlers who were very eager to swim).
Overall, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend Clearlake as a destination, but if you do go there, you won’t find a better place to camp than camp Jackson.
