Located in the redwood forest of the Santa Cruz Mountains and only a short drive from the bay area, Camp Cruz is a unique "glamping" facility with many amenities not found in basic campgrounds. It is an ideal year-round destination for people seeking a camping experience in the redwoods without bringing all the normal camping gear. Camp Cruz is located on a 5-acre residential mountain property. While camp owners live on the property with a siberian husky (who is always on a runner), the layout of the land provides seclusion and a reasonable level of privacy for guests. Camp Cruz is home to Growing Up Wild, a seasonal kid's camp. Your stay here supports our mission to get disadvantaged youth outdoors. This listing is for groups of up to 10 people. The base price is for up to 4 people. We also have a large group listing on Hipcamp for up to 25 people.
Camp Cruz offers a furnished 22 ft. geodesic dome, a 12 ft. aircrete dome, a 14 ft. yurt, and a 12x10 ft. canvas tent cabin. The large geodome has electrical outlets, a coffee/tea station, a stereo/DVD system and a wood stove for heat. The aircrete dome has electricity, a futon couch and 2 sleeping cots. The yurt has 2 cots and a couch, a wood stove for heat, but no electricity. The tent cabin has 2 sleeping cots, but no electricity or heat.

Camp Cruz offers a covered outdoor kitchen on a spacious deck equipped with a sink with potable water, a fridge, a 3-burner stove (propane included), a basic assortment of pots, pans, cooking utensils, a grill (charcoal not included), spices, a commercial coffee machine, tables, and chairs. The kitchen has lights and outlets. Camp Cruz has a campfire pit with benches (firewood not provided), composting toilets, and hot showers. The site offers numerous flat spots in the forest for pitching your tents, a large flat open space encircled by redwood trees, a chill-out area with 4 hammocks, a year-round creek with easy access, a vibrant garden, and short trails. On-site parking is provided.
WHAT TO BRING
Bring sleeping bags/blankets, pillows, pads, tents (if needed), towels, food, eating and drinking utensils, paper towels/napkins, foil and tupperware for storing food, firewood, charcoal for the grill, flashlights, and toiletries (there are shampoo, conditioner, and soap dispensers in the showers). Please note that you do not need to bring bottled water as we have potable well water in the kitchen.

NEARBY DESTINATIONS AND SPECIAL ACTIVITIES
Camp Cruz is within an hour drive for day trips to Santa Cruz or Monterey, where you can enjoy world class beaches, including the beach boardwalk, a wide variety of restaurants, or a fun nightlife. Camp Cruz is only a couple miles from the upper entrance of the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park and the Soquel Demonstration Forest. These parks are epic for mountain biking and hiking. Camp Cruz is also conveniently located next to Koinonia Conference Grounds which offers affordable ropes courses, outdoor laser tag, and a swimming pool. If interested, please inquire at the time of your booking.
We provide trash service, however, guests are expected to sort their trash and recycling properly. Waste in the form of broken camp equipment or packaging materials from newly purchased camping products are not permitted to be left behind.
Arrival is between 3 and 9pm. Groups are expected to follow Hip Camp's "Leave no Trace" agreement, leaving the campground clean and everything in good condition. We do allow legal-age alcohol consumption on site, however, this facility is NOT a place for raging late night parties with excessive alcohol consumption. Indoor structures are meant for mellow activities, and adult supervision is required for children. Upon departure, guests are expected to thoroughly clean the kitchen and all indoor spaces. We provide written guidelines on clean up to help guests meet our expectations. While the campground is secluded enough for late night campfires, quiet hours are observed from 11pm - 9am, particularly around the residences and parking area. When requesting a booking, we ask that you tell us about your group and the intention behind your visit. Thanks for reading our listing. We look forward to hearing from you.
A PROPER HEADS UP ABOUT OUR NEIGHBORS
Our neighboring Buddhist retreat center, Pema Osel Ling, occasionally hosts weddings. The location of the marriage ceremony is tucked away in the redwoods out of sight but within hearing distance from our camp. Hence, we make a special request to our guests to plan for quiet time during the wedding ceremony which lasts for only 30-45 minutes. Furthermore, there are locations, such as the creekside, that you can go to at our camp in order to continue with your activities at normal noise levels during the ceremony. Many of our guests, especially guests with kids, simply plan their hiking adventure during this time. Additionally, the wedding reception, held in a hall away from our camp, can sometimes be heard in the distance depending on the celebration style of the wedding. We have an agreement with the retreat center to turn down the sound at 10pm sharp. If this situation weighs into your decision to book with us, message us and we will tell you if a wedding is scheduled during the dates of your requested stay.

Camp Cruz is our first HipCamp experience, and it sets the bar high!
The camp is super comfortable - the dome is cozy was well set-up for our family of four (more could easily fit). Imagine all the features of a large camp site (amazing outdoor kitchen, fire circle, creek for exploring, comfortable showers and running water, well-maintained toliets) with all the privacy of a solitary camp site in the midst of towering trees and dappled light. It's family camp for one family - an unusual and ideal situation for any small group that wants outdoor experience with both privacy and comfort. We loved it so much we had a hard time saying good-bye!
The family that runs the camp is respectful of privacy, while available for orientation and responsive to questions.
Camp Cruz was a great place to stay. We were very impressed with how much space we had and how private it felt. The dome was very cool and well equipped. Wished we had noticed the space heater earlier though as it would have been nice to have in the early hours. The outdoor kitchen was lovely. Hosts were very accommodating and forthcoming with info. We would love to come back.
Fantastic "glamping" experience in a serene setting. Hosts were great, and provided everything required for comfortable stay. Outdoor kitchen is great for cooking gourmet camping meals, and the geo dome is like a like a retreat of its own. We had a very relaxing stay at camp Cruz.
Camp Cruz is a truly amazing place. Ismael and Holly made the place feel like home and were very good hosts! The camp is tucked far in the mountains with trees all around. The yurt does get freezing at night (as soon as the stove goes out) so be sure to bring a good sleeping bag and warm pajamas!
They provide most everything that you need. The one thing we should have brought is a spatula! They provided pots and pans, but no utensils or plates. They also provide biodegradable soap, shampoo, and conditioner, and it smells good and makes your hair feel great!
There is also a stream in the property that you can walk down a small hill to and find salamanders, banana slugs, and centipedes.
Camp Cruz was awesome! Ismael wasn't sure if he and his family would be around to greet us upon arrival (because we were coming on Christmas Eve) so we scheduled a call beforehand. He was super nice, informative, and helpful. He provided me with detailed directions on how to get to the campsite and we didn't have any issues finding the location because of that.
The site was beautiful, peaceful, and perfect for a family getaway. They have a large outdoor kitchen area which made it easy to cook (but you do have to bring your own utensils, bowls, mugs, etc). The dome was clean and very cute! Ismael was generous enough to provide us with three cots for sleeping. The main source of heating for the dome is a wood stove so don't forget to bring firewood!
Thank you for letting us stay at Camp Cruz for the holidays :)
Camp Cruz was awesome for my 6 friends and I. You have so much room (inside and out) and anything you can think of is provided for you. The kitchen area is fully equipped with a three-burner propane stove, pots/pans, utensils, dish-washing sink, drying rack and plenty of counter space. The main glass dome/yurt has electricity and is furnished with all the comforts of home: microwave, couches, wood stove, small fridge, space heater, cute icicle lights etc. The smaller canvas yurt is cozy (no electricity) but has a wood stove also. The owner was very helpful and responsive to any questions we had throughout our stay and he sells wood for $10 which definitely came in handy when we used ours up in the fire pit. Beautiful place to glamp!
It was my first time booking from hipcamp, and staying in the geodesic dome made it a very fun and unique experience for me. The moment we arrived, Ismael greeted us with a warm welcome and gave us a tour of the campground. He had awesome music and dvd collections for us to choose from as well. The dome gets really cold at night, but the wood stove heater kept us very cozy. I recommend booking this property and definitely would like to come again!
