I do not recommend this place. The host never answered his email/phone. I had to leave the property because there was no amenities: shower, water, RV hooks, etc. The people on the property didn’t even know I was coming. It was a total waste of time!
A ton of charm and a lot of fun. If you want peace and quiet at night, you’ll find it here. Went here to get away from the city after visiting Tahoe. This spot is nestled in the backroads of a beautiful little town called Fiddletown. Hearing nothing but crickets in the distance by the campfire is a great escape from the sirens and noise of city life. Be prepared for a scenic drive in and the game hen’s on the property are early risers, so you’ll hear them in the morning. The dogs are adorable! Rick is a really nice guy and the spot is accommodating with water and electricity access nearby.
Thank you Rick!
The host, Rick, greeted us, after the three large, fluffy, friendly dogs who continually patrol the farm, and showed us around and made sure we settled in. The camping spot we had was a nice, private, flat area where we put our tarp and tent. We built a fire pit and enjoyed that, so that is there for others. There is some land and woods to explore and chill out in. The dogs liked to hang out or visit, some more than others. There are a lot of hens and roosters on the property and they do make quite a lot of noise and the dogs bark occasionally, so while the noise is different from city noises or being at a campground with loud partying neighbors, you might want to bring ear plugs for sound sleep.
On a warmer day, we would have jumped in the pond.
California Game Farm was definitely interesting. The Great Pyrenees dogs were lovely! There was no water or bathrooms as advertised though I'm sure if you asked it could be provided. Roosters crowed until sunset and started as sunrise (to be expected). Though once the roosters stopped crowing the lovely pups started barking for hours. Rick wasn't expecting us but quickly led us to our spot and was friendly. Exploring was not really an option.
Awesome, would return!
Staying at the California Game Farm was great and we'd totally do it again. The host Rick and his worker Bento were very welcoming and extremely accommodating of our requests. They provided us access to a bathroom and running water via hose which was very convenient. The campsite was very private and clean, which was a plus. The surrounding areas are nice for short hikes as well. The location is about an hour from Silver Lake, which has great watersports and hiking. Rick's three dogs were a really cute and friendly welcoming committee and were a great addition to our stay!!
Richard was very laid back and friendly, and he allowed us to use his pond for swimming and the hose for water. The chickens do get quite loud in the early morning hours, so expect to be awoken early when you stay here. The site we stayed in felt private despite being near houses.
