Our property has a lot of history having been a part of the Gold Rush era. It was once used as a cattle ranch and even a summer vacation property and golf course. We think the most interesting place on the property is the original river house that is over 100 years old. We would be happy to give you a tour and share stories if you're interested.

River Ranch Retreat
We had a fun experience camping in this spot. We had the entire place to ourselves, as there were no other campers the night we went. We spent a long time at the river catching frogs and picking pyrite from the water, finishing the day with dinner and a fire at the communal area. Coral was very helpful prior to our arrival, we didn't get to meet her unfortunately, however her husband was a great host, he showed us around the property, the zipline, and told us all about the animals on the property. Definitely recommend.

River Ranch Retreat Hike In
I am very happy we found this place. It is September and the river is clear and has many spots for swimming. We stayed at site 6, which is located under a large cedar tree, overlooking the field. You can see the house and the mountain side green with trees. It can get pretty hot in the tent during the day but there's a bit of shade found around. This site can be booked with this specific listing (09/16), while sites 1-5 stretch in a line along the river, with site 1 being closest to the house, the fire ring area and the river (you can actually hear the water sing there). They are available to pick in the other listing at this farm (you'll see a map in the process of booking). Site 5 has a large mesmerizing rock formation next to it and probably gets less shade than sites 1 to 4. I have only one general tip, which is to bring some eco-friendly soap with you. It would be a nice-to-have, but not critical :) Once again, thank you Carol for letting people enjoy nature and the country at your farm house! It was an amazing weekend!

River Ranch Retreat
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at River Ranch Retreat. We were two families, each with two children, ages 6,7,8&9. Communication with Coral before, during and even after our trip was great, and she and Will greeted us upon arrival to show us the lay of the land. The posting describes the place perfectly: when you drive in their house is on the left. Straight ahead is the communal fire pit and BBQ area with chairs and even a couch and ample room for multiple groups to lounge/cook as needed; just beyond that is the main access to the river which is great because it is very close, even enough for us to see hear our children playing there while we cooked. Behind and to the left of the house is the area with the fenced in animals- and free range chickens! There is a great shaded play area there including zip line, slack line and seesaw that all the kids enjoyed immensely. To the right of the communal area is the row of campsites, there are 5 of them. Across the field, away from the river, is another site which we didn't really see but if you really want privacy and to be away from other campers you could book that one (site 6). The sites all have plenty of space for a car and a large tent. They each also have access to the little path that goes to the river, though it's just as easy to walk over to the fire pit area and to the beach that is right there. The river is amazing. We were there Labor Day weekend, so it was pretty low but still there were wading and dunking pools galore, it was shaded and cool, the water cold but we could still play in and enjoy it. You can walk right down - or up- the river in the water or on the rocks and find lots of cool swim and hangout spots. Coral was extremely helpful with giving us ideas of hikes to do in the area as well as where to eat. We ended up taking one day to drive the 50 min to Shealor lake to hike about 4 miles (at 8,000ft) and it was well worth it. We then dined at the Gold Vine Grill which she recommended and it was really good. It was nice to take a one meal break from camp-cooking. The area is full of wineries and lakes and great places to explore so if you get antsy you can always go exploring- but the river that is right there is worth spending time in, on, around. This is a great campsite with lovely hosts.

Coral and her husband kindly greeted me when I arrived. I was given a quick tour of the property so I could get my tent up. The property is stunning and well kept. The river that runs through their "backyard" is awesome to dip into in the morning - so refreshing and clean! The location is prime; further up elevation near the mountains and surrounded by wineries! I highly recommend staying here whether you're just stopping through, you need a little getaway or are on a winery hopping.

River Ranch Retreat
I ended up arriving a lot later than expected at the camp site as I had spent the whole day driving up from Southern California but Coral and her husband kindly greeted me when I arrived. I was given a quick tour of the property so I could get my tent up. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to properly meet the hosts as the next morning was a busy day that needed an early start. However, the property is stunning and well kept. The river that runs through their "backyard" is awesome to dip into in the morning - so refreshing and clean! The location is prime; further up elevation near the mountains and surrounded by wineries!
