Big Mesa Farmstead is a 10-acre homestead close to epic beaches and wide open nature. We're surrounded by preserved agricultural property and Pt. Reyes National Seashore, so you'll really feel like you've escaped the city. You’ll love our land because of the bounty of organic produce from on-site Big Mesa Farm, abundant bird and wildlife, nearby hiking trails, surf spots and live music at Smiley's Saloon. Hipcamp guests are an integral part of our farmstead; you're helping us keep small-scale organic farming alive and rent affordable for our resident team who live in 4 houses on the property.

For our Hipcamp guests, we have four 15-ft x 12-ft wall tent cabins, each perched on redwood platforms overlooking a wild ravine full of trees and wildlife. It almost feels like you're sleeping in a tree-house.  The tents are equipped with electricity, lights, rugs, two chairs, a small table, 4 real beds and mattresses. These tents can handle wind and rain, so don't let bad weather keep you from camping!

Group Buyouts: It's super fun to rent out all 4 tents for your group of up to 16! Group pricing is $50 per person, per night with a 2 night minimum. Plus a flat one-time cleaning fee of $100 total (includes all people and tents and all nights). For example: 14 people for 2 nights would be $1400 + $100.  Minimum charge for a Group Buyouts $1200. For rentals of 1 to 3 tents, please see our other listing on hipcamp.com/california/big-mesa-farmstead

Tent Cabin #1: 1 king and 2 singles (sleeps 4)

Tent Cabin #2: 2 singles (bunked) and 2 singles (sleeps 4)

Tent Cabin #3: 2 singles (bunked) and 2 singles (sleeps 4)

Tent Cabin #4: 1 king and 2 singles (sleeps 4)

Tents #1 and #4 are best for couples.  Singles and kids are best in #2 and #3.  FYI, 2 un-bunked singles can be moved together to make a King.

BRING: Please BYO sleeping bag, towel, pillow and flashlight. The tents all have access to a shared outdoor redwood bath house with two composting toilets and two hot showers.

CAMPFIRE: Our 20-foot diameter communal fire ring has clean deep sand and cool stump chairs. Please bring some wood and starter materials.  You're also welcome to forage wood and kindling from around the property, but no guarantees on dryness and availability.  We have axes for the skilled woodsmen.

GAMES & LEISURE: We have a big outdoor stage that is great for yoga and sunbathing. We also have cornhole, spikeball and bocce.  Once you reserve, I'll send you an email about booking on-site yoga and massage sessions, farm tours and more!

NEARBY: Once you've reserved your tent cabins, I'll email you my go-to list of nearby activities, restaurants, hikes and rentals.

COOKING: For your cooking and dining convenience, we have a large outdoor communal camp kitchen with: large fridge, large sink, cooking & eating wares, pots, pans, knives, prep space, charcoal grill (please byo charcoal and fluid, though we sometimes have extra), french press, electric kettle, and a coffee makers.

KIDS: at this time, we can't host young children under 10 as we are a working farm with related hazards such as electric fences, poison oak, open ponds and heavy equipment.

PETS: trained, well behaved dogs are OK, but must be kept on a leash and attended at all times. We have free ranging chickens, ducks, cats, sheep and a llama that don't like to be chased (or attacked!) by unfamiliar doggies.

Don't forget: layers of clothing (it can get cold and damp at night), closed-toe shoes or boots, headlamp or flashlight, charcoal, ice, cooler, sleeping bag, towel, pillow, reusable water bottle, Tecnu soap or wipes for poison oak encounters and sunscreen.

We're close to the Palomarin Trailhead (3 miles), Pt. Reyes Bird Observatory (3 miles), downtown Bolinas (1.5 miles), Commonweal Retreat Center (1.8 miles) and RCA Beach (2 miles).

Big Mesa Farmstead is the perfect spot for a large friends or family get-together. We had rented the entire place with 2 other families and loved every second of it. We loved the warm outdoor showers, the outdoor kitchen and the big outdoor communal wooden tables. Our kids roamed freely on the large property and found tons of games to play. They became free-range kids for the weekend, got dirty and are already asking to go back.
You can pick your own vegetables (which you pay) directly from the farm or get eggs straight from the chicken coop.
There are tons of activities just a short drive from the farm. Bolinas (30min walking) is a charming and well preserved surfing village where you can hang out at Smiley's for a concert, eat out at Coast Cafe or get coffee and croissants at the famous pastry shop next to Coast Cafe. Tomales Bay is a 1/2hr drive.
Ashley shared her passion for the outdoor and the farm with us and was around to answer any question we had during our stay.
3 days at Big Mesa Farm felt like a whole week off. A perfect place to disconnect.
We're definitely going back.
