We are in the process of developing an area to host travelers, and currently we have a basic camping area and facilities just outside of the center of Arcata. We have a picnic table, compost toilet, and a number of chickens who may visit you. We are not an option for people sleeping in their vehicles (2-3 minute walk from parking area to camping area). We have a picnic table, compost toilet, and a number of chickens who may visit you. We are not an option for people sleeping in their vehicles (2-3 minute walk from parking area to camping area). Fresh food and campfires are optional during some times of the year. (Edit: we have dialed back on food options and some camp sites to allow for distancing during covid. Currently we are only hosting one spot per night to allow privacy and distancing).

Nathan's place was awesome! When you pull up, it feels like you're just in another suburb but as soon as he welcomes you and shows you the property, you realize there's quite a bit of charm, space, and privacy. His back yard is cozy and there are many different places that you could pitch a tent and feel like you're secluded.
Nathan himself was an incredibly welcoming host. It was a pleasure to share a beer with him and chat about anything and everything, but he was also respectful of my time and privacy. Nathan and his partner were hospitable, kind, and accommodating.
A great location if you’re up for a lot of exploring. We combed over the Klamath to lower Humboldt, and this was central to all that traveling. Nathan was a wonderful host and very friendly. We enjoyed the open space, and the privacy of not having other campers nearby. The compost toilet, was very clean, the gardens/property, very homey, and smelled nice and lush from everything growing. Highly recommend!
Nathan's spot is fantastic. Great location and really just perfect all around. My first time using Hipcamp and I could not have been happier. Would 100% recommend Nathan's space to anyone and I hope to stay there again next time I'm up in the area.
A sweet spot with a lot of charm.
Fantastic quick stay on our way down the coast. Spot is at the back of a fairly long lot so it’s private and tucked away. You can see some neighbors’ houses, but they are pretty far away. There was a folding table with a basket of Dr. Bronner’s, but spray, etc., and a 3 gallon dispenser with potable water. There’s a little sitting area for eating, and it was graced with an exquisite poppy—such a lovely touch. Loved the farm fresh eggs, too!
Nathan’s property was a calm sliver of bayside country, perfect after a long day on the road- very conveniently located. It was peaceful, serene, and quiet to camp under a magical feeling redwood, surrounded by fruit trees & wild blackberries. It felt very private and special, and I loved the thoughtful touches of flowers, hand sani, soap, and water.
As a host, Nathan was friendly and informative, yet non intrusive- he got us set up with what we needed and we didn’t see him again.
My only regret as that we didn’t get their earlier to enjoy the serene country yard more!
Nate was a welcoming host who oriented to the site when we arrived after dark.
