One of the last remaining undeveloped parts of Southern California, De Luz Heights is located adjacent to the Cleveland National Forest, and the Santa Margarita River (just a few miles from the campsite). This 12-month flowing river is the only one in Southern California that has never been altered or dammed by humans, and features a state-managed hiking trail with many water holes along the way with clear, clean water to dip into. On my 80 acres, there are no major roads going through or next to the property. My land is 13 miles from the Pacific ocean and enjoys a relatively mild yearly climate. Giant boulders provide topographical relief and offer platforms from which to enjoy the view of the nearby Santa Margarita Mountains. The valley views are filled with olive and avocado groves, vineyards, and horse ranches. The Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base is nearby, so you might hear some artillery in the distance on some occasions. The campsite embraces all the comforts of "glamping": a hot shower, composting toilet, beds with sheets provided, gas grill with a stovetop, pots and pans, kitchenware, a sink, picnic table, shaded deck, sofa, lounge chairs, and propane fire pit. The basics are provided: toilet paper, paper towels, purified drinking water, towels, sheets, cooking oil, etc. Campers need to bring their own blankets. I've created a network of hiking trails for especially fit hikers looking for a more rigorous hike than the nearby Santa Margarita River Trail. My trails lead through creek beds, over boulders, through rocky crags, with views of the Pacific ocean on a clear day. Hikers on my trails need to wear proper hiking boots with good traction. Sections of my trails will require bouldering with hands and feet. Expect to have fatigued quadriceps, some scrapes, and a sweaty hat brim. The campsite is accessible with a two-wheel drive vehicle; I drive a Kia Forte out there regularly. However, some tips when driving a two-wheel drive car: when going uphill on a dirt road, try to keep some momentum of about 12-15 MPH. If you stop and try to start again, your tires will spin out. If that happens, just reverse down the hill, and try it again with more momentum.

Hilltop Lodge Tiny House
Hilltop home is as remote as you can get within the SoCal Megalopolis. When you're here, you are on your own. Okay, Dome Home and some other glamping spots on Bailes Farm are within sight, but for the most part, you are off the grid. It's bliss. We've stayed twice to celebrate our anniversary and this year was particularly cold and wet. I was really happy that we brought along our own bedding, including a down quilt and a weighted blanket. Do it, regardless of the forecast! The stove is great when one is awake to tend to it, but by four AM, it can get really cold, and you'll be happy to have the extra layers. We also bring along an emergency toilet (my wife works in the emergency services trade) which also pays great dividends, although the toilet on site is really fine, as is the hot outdoor shower. The one thing to be aware of is the Campo Pendleton Artillery practice, which apparently goes on around the clock. And I mean, around the clock! The nature trails which begin right at the hanging hammock chairs are challenging, but clearly marked and well worth the time. Pay attention, though! The paths are quickly overgrown, so the pick dot markers are vital! The one negative note is the sink faucet, which is very ineffective, but likely very water-conscious. A little more water pressure would be appreciated. Also, a drip coffee maker would also be appreciated. The french press is nice, but requires more patience. Take care to observe the local weather!

Hilltop Lodge Tiny House
Hilltop Lodge was so beautiful. If you're thinking the pictures look too good to be true, it's actually the opposite: it looks even better in person! The accomodations were very well thought out. We kept cozy with a fire stove and a very comfortable Cal King bed. The kitchen and grill is as good as it gets for a campsite. The gas fire pit in the back made for some excellent memories and kept us warm. Christopher is a very responsive host and made sure everything was in order, and answered questions I had promptly. Don't worry about the directions as it's actually very easy with the host's directions. The site was also about 20 minutes away from Fallbrook so we were able to pick up supplies and food easily. I would highly recommend Hilltop Lodge and I can't wait to go back, maybe the other property nearby hosted by Christopher.

Dome Home under the Queen Palms
Glamping with kids
I stayed here with my two elementary aged children and dog, and we had a great time. As someone with no camping experience, I was a bit nervous but this exceeded my expectations. We really just needed to bring food and clothes. Everything else is provided. It is a beautiful location. I barely had any cell service (sometimes could get one bar to make a call or text but not enough for internet on my phone) so just be prepared for that. We’d come again!

Loved it!
This was the highlight of our Spring Break Trip! This place has super good vibes, and spectacular views. The outdoor kitchen was simply awesome! Our toddler loved hanging by the little creek down the hill and we appreciated the fencing around the kitchen to keep him nearby. The bed was super comfy, and big enough for the three of us. California King for the win! Our FWD econo-box rental car didn't have a problem getting to the place with a little bit of thoughtful throttle work and momentum where needed. If were ever in the area again we hope to stay there again!

Dome Home under the Queen Palms
The perfect day trip location
My girlfriend is avidly into outdoors/camp/hiking. She’s no stranger to Hipcamp. Could not have picked a better first time experience and lasting impression on me. The location was beautiful! Could not have placed a Dome Home in a better place. The views were breathtaking. The property itself was quaint, welcoming and perfect for a couple’s getaway. I love to cook so just give me a grill and I’ll take care of the rest. Very pleased with the amenities. Thank you for hosting us Christopher.

Wind, rain, and beautiful green
This is our second time on Chris' property. We had gorgeous views of rolling green hills, all the amenities needed for cooking and staying clean, and a challenging hiking trail down and up one of the highest hill face (make sure to follow the pink spray-painted marks before dark!). With a traditional furnace and plenty of cut wood available on site, the uniquely structured hilltop house provided adequate shelter from the wind and rain that we experienced part of the weekend. (It got drafty so make sure to bring extra layers or make use of the extra materials provided onsite.)
