Avian Acres has been our home for the past 11 years. We have given birth to our children here and are extremely lucky to call this land home. Our land is 8 acres with a significant buffer wild forest buffer on all sides giving it sense of privacy and wildness, yet just 10 minutes from town. We have a year round spring-fed creek running through the property, an abundance of flora and fauna, along with our own significant organic veggie garden and greenhouse. Historically this property was situated along the Narrow Gauge railroad track that ran from Nevada City to Colfax and there is still evidence of the raised berm that the track was on which is located at the bottom border of our property. Our property is located just 10 minutes to Bear River, 15 minutes to Rollins Lake, 10 minutes to Historic Downtown Grass Valley, 12 minutes to Historic Downtown Nevada City, and 25 minutes to the incredibly majestic Yuba River. We are also just 15 minutes off Hwy 80 from Colfax, enroute to Truckee and lake Tahoe. Learn more about this land: Our 16' diameter round level raised tent platform is just a few feet away from a burbling brook. Next to the tent platform is a shaded lounge area for relaxing to the sound of the water and numerous birds who call this spot home. The campsite is totally private, both visibly and audibly removed from our home and from neighboring properties.  Our Organic garden, seasonally stocked full of ripe veggies, is located just 60' feet away down a path through the forest where you are welcome to graze and munch upon checking in with us first to see what is available and ripe for the picking.  Next to the garden is a large propane barbque, sink (cold water), and table available for prepping meals.  The parking for this site is just 50' from the campsite, and we are happy to help get you settled in if you need assistance carrying your things.

Camping at the Plum Grotto Tent on Isaac's land was so peaceful! If you are looking to camp in the vicinity I highly recommend. My boyfriend and I wanted to camp somewhere private, and this fit the bill. The hosts are super friendly, and the location of the camping area is secluded from the main house down a little walking path on far side of property. There is a sweet fire pit, and a table with lighting as well, plus little protected stand/counter area to store food. It's certainly nice to be able to access a separate bathroom (short walk to main house) with hot shower. Location is convenient for explorations of the Grass Valley/Nevada City/ Colfax area. We brought our kayaks and enjoyed Bullards Bar and Scott's Flat Reservoir, along with a fun evening out in Nevada City. The Plum Grotto made a great home base.

Relaxing stay!
This was my first Hipcamp experience, and it was great! The Plum Grotto camp space matched the description perfectly, and having the tent platform, BBQ, and prep sink with potable water was great. Isaac was a friendly host, and was very accessible and provided some great local recommendations. I would stay here again. Thank you for the wonderful trip!

Plum Grotto Tent Platform
Our family had a wonderful time camping here! Isaac and his younger son were very helpful and hospitable, which made it easy for my 5 year old daughter to enjoy herself. The campfire ring and sitting logs were one of our favorite features, but it was also extremely convenient to have an outdoor sink and access to a clean and pleasant indoor bathroom! The ability to have electricity at the campsite at night to charge our phones or enjoy some twinkle lights was another unique and appreciated amenity. At night, the symphony of frogs and creek song made sitting out under the stars enchanting. A relatively short drive from Sacramento, this was exactly what we needed to scratch our camping itch. There is plenty of privacy at the site, and it is a short drive to hikes or lakes in the area. So it was arguably as good as camping at sone state or national parks. And, again, one would never find a bathroom this nice at a public campground!

I love camping on Issac's land! It's beautiful and quiet. Issac also provides lots of amenities including lights and electricity. Issac himself is warm-hearted and very kind. I will definitely visit this camping again if possible.

Creek Song Cabin
Fantastic private cabin
Great time at Creek Song Cabin. We were visiting the area and wanted to see Grass Valley and Nevada City. The cabin was a perfect location to have privacy and still be close to both cities. The cabin is private, quiet and charming. Easy to get to and Jessica and Isaac were super helpful and quick to respond while still giving us complete privacy. Can’t recommend it enough.
