Choose to camp Eagles Nest and be perched at the top of Ascension Ranch for amazing views of Folsom Lake by day, and city lights by night. This is a spectacular multi-tiered site that gets lots of sunshine, and is set up with the common area being at the highest point for the best views in the house, also boasting a rock-lined fire pit and large picnic table. Take a few steps down to the lower tier for a nice flat tent-area that can comfortably house 2-4 tents depending on size. For those who crave more privacy, you're welcome to wonder anywhere above or below the tiered area to find an exclusive tent-pad that tickles your fancy. This is the ideal pick for those who are seeking more sun than shade, a whole lot of privacy, and un-obstructed views with walk-out / ride-out trail head access to a private portion of the upper Darrington Trail (~30 minutes to the lake by foot, ~15 by hoof, and ~5 by car).
With direct access to hiking, biking, and horse friendly trails that lead to, and around Folsom Lake, we encourage guests to bring all their toys ... think about bringing light weight paddle boats, water floats, fishing gear, binoculars, hiking gear, mountain bikes, and of course your horses.

A slice of heaven atop a hill
Our trip here was amazing! The weather was incredible (we went in April) and the views from our camp were to die for. You feel like you are so far removed from society, but you get to watch the thinking lights off in the distance, at night. The lake is great. It is a 5 minute drive down the road, then another 5 minute walk from there. We would pack a picnic and spend the whole day out there, then return to camp to watch the sunset. The hosts are exactly what you would want from hosts: totally reachable, but let you do your thing, very friendly and personable, laid back, and they even let you kick it with their animals, and tell you all their funny names. I would definitely go back there.
Me, my wife and our dog went to Eagles Nest this weekend and it was PERFECT! the weather was amazing, the camping location is awesome and we had easy access to the lake.
I totally recommend and would definitely go back!
Thank you Roshan and family for this incredible stay!!!
Ascension Ranch is awesome! I snuck away with my 4 year old for an outing here and he had a blast. The ranch is relatively close to the greater Sac area but feels totally remote. There are horses everywhere, dogs, goats and natural wildlife. You can easily walk down to the lake if you're hot. My son really loved interacting with the friendly horses.
There's no running water here so bring your own but there was a port-a-potty next to our site and you get very good cell reception. The site also had a large fire pit that was perfect for cooking hotdogs and roasting marshmallows.
We stayed at the "eagle's nest" site but would pick the lower sites if I had to do it again. The eagle's nest was nice and very secluded but it would have been more fun to pal around with the horses 24/7 and there's just more walkable terrain down there.
Oh yeah, Roshan was super nice! She's a great host and provided a wonderful atmosphere for us. Stay at Ascension Ranch!
The camping at @ascensionranch did not disappoint. Private camping spot with panoramic views of Folsom lake, hiking trails, animals galore and PUPPIES! Roshan was incredibly nice and super responsive. Could not of had a better time!
Eagles nest: hidden gem
Second time here this season and does not disappoint! The campsite/property is amazing. Eagles Nest has beautiful views of the lake and surrounding cities; you feel far away from it all while still being close to home. Being a short distance from Folsom lake is a big plus. Easy drive across the property to access the water. The hosts Roshan and Jeff are great, they are very friendly and helpful, and check up on you while your at the site but also give you space and time to enjoy yourself. Would highly recommend!
The land and livestock are absolutely beautiful! The owners are very kind, welcoming, and happy to show you around! I felt completely safe there due to the ranch dogs! The privacy was so nice and the view is to die for! Bring a wagon to help haul items!
