Pitch your tent smack dab in the middle of HartSong Ranch Animal Sanctuary - some of the most beautiful acreage in the Sierra Nevada Foothills. Build a fire! Cook a delicious, campfire meal over an open fire pit - kick up your heels "a bit" after a long, hard day and then - Whew! Cop a squat, sit back, exhale and prepare yourself to take it all in. Silence is golden around here and once here, you will soon come to know – that if you blend in, be quiet, listen and observe – NATURE, in all its glory, will reveal its majesty - right before your very eyes.
The 2 acre pond reflects the brilliance of “harmony” in nature. The water is pure, clean and abundant with life yet, HartSong Ranch is a pesticide free facility. Nature, taking care of itself, is truly a beautiful thing. Yellow Water Iris are in full bloom, spring through summer. Dragonflies and butterflies sparkle in the sunshine. Frogs croak, bats dart here and there and big mouth bass become airborne in search of dinner in the early evening hours. Blue and White Heron visit the pond often – gracefully soaring over the pastures and pond in search of a safe place to land among the Iris. Watching them calculate a strategy to catch a meal, while appearing to stalk in slow motion – FASCINATING!
Upwards of 40 Canada Geese goslings are hatched yearly on the grounds of HartSong. It’s absolutely adorable to watch the little ones as they frantically paddle along behind their moms. In addition and if you’re an early riser, you will most certainly feel blessed to observe the loving, yet stern, communications between Canada Goose parents (life- long mates) as they teach their young to fly - every morning at sunrise in the spring.
Eight head of cattle (that have never known anything other than kindness), graze the pastures beyond the pond. Yes, they all have names and yes, they are all as sweet as can be. Their tranquility is contagious.
The "one and only" ALP campsite is large enough to accommodate 9+ large tents. Only one camping group occupies this campsite.

*The Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park – a 14 mile drive from your campsite, features a museum, restored historic buildings and costumed volunteers. Gold was discovered here at Sutter’s Mill in 1848, sparking the California Gold Rush.
*The American River Confluence (North Fork and Middle Fork merge) – a 10 mile drive from your campsite. The drive down the canyon to the American River is beautifully picturesque. Over 100 miles of hiking trails, pristine swimming holes and white water opportunities are available for those of you in search of adrenaline laced activities.
*Coloma, California – world famous for its white water rafting excursions – a 14 mile drive from your campsite.
*Lotus, California - The Coloma-Lotus Valley is the major destination of the South Fork, shaped by the American River today as in 1848. Three riverfront parks provide opportunities for family picnics and wading, and Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park brings California’s history to life. While in Lotus, please make a point to stop in at Sierra Rizing Bakery, Coffeehouse and Cafe – located in the beautiful Coloma & Lotus river valley just steps from the South Fork of the American River. They feature small-batch local artisan-roasted coffees, fresh bakery goods, breakfast and lunch fare, as well as specialty drinks, beer, and local wines. They also offer a beautiful outdoor patio that is dog friendly. Dogs are also welcome inside the cafe.
HartSong co-founders, Jim and Kathy Hart, are both professional musicians so there’s nothing more delightful to our ears than to hear acoustic kumbaya moments around a campfire. We do, however, most graciously request “quiet time” at the campsite after 10PM.

So, I debated whether or not I wanted to give a review for Kathy & Jim's Animal Lover's Paradise. Not because it wasn't a great place to stay or because they weren't gracious hosts - in fact, quite the opposite is true and I am being completely selfish and not wanting the word to get out about how magnificent it truly is!!! But since Kathy & Jim were so sweet and amazing hosts, I wanted to support them and give a rave review for our night with them. The property is gorgeous, Bernice is a hoot (you'll see) and Kathy & Jim made our stay there extra special. We'll most certainly be back!!!!!
Kathy and Jim were extremely welcoming hosts. They went above and beyond and made sure we had everything we needed. The campsite was very clean and the views from the sight were phenomenal. They provided a boat and canoe, as well as emergency supplies. They gave us a tour of the property and let us meet their animals. They rescue disabled animals that would have otherwise been neglected or put down. They are truly caring individuals with a true passion for helping animals. The experience of meeting the animals was unique, something I don’t think I could find at any other campsite. This is an amazing place to escape with someone special for the weekend. Absolutely worth the trip.
Our family had the most amazing time at Animal Lovers Paradise. Kathy & Jim were exceptional hosts. They went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and welcome. Our 6 year old had the time of her life exploring, swimming, and kayaking. She was even able to help care for the rescued animals, which was the highlight of her weekend. Their property is truly breathtaking, complete with a gorgeous view of the lake and river stream. We can’t wait to visit the Ranch again.
Kathy was such a sweetheart and the campsite was just perfection! Take the tour! It's really a nice treat and you get to meet such sweet and wonderful animals. Easily the best part of the trip. We'll be back :D
What an amazing place to camp! I came for the night and both my girlfriend and I quickly decided we needed to drop our plans and stay for the whole weekend. With a peaceful and serene country setting, this farm drew us in for many reasons. From the beautiful 2 acre lake, to the amazing animals each with their own distinct personality, to the warm, genuine and educational company of Kathy and Jim Heart, camping here was a great experience which we hope to repeat very soon!
We had a wonderful stay!! I reserved the campsite for a quick family getaway and it exceeded our expectations. There were 7 adults, 1 kid, and 1 dog, and there was plenty of room for the number of tents we needed. It was great to have space all to ourselves and the hosts were super accommodating and friendly. I would DEFINITELY recommend this place, especially for groups or families that just want some quality time together without the hassle of figuring out public campsites in more trafficked areas.
Kathy and Jim are kondest human being . They are taking care of these animals and rescue them and give home that they deserve . And thier place was so amazing feel like little heaven .
God blese them and it’s place I can go more often .
We spent 2 weeks camping in different areas of California and this was our favourite night. The hosts are beyond lovely and the area that you get to camp in and use is just dreamy. There is a moving small lake/pond (so you don't get mosquitos) and they have provided a small canoe and row boat to use. We used them often and watched the bass jump out of the water around us. Coffee from the sitting chairs in the morning while listening to the farm animals was such a treat.
They have an out-house - which normally I'm not a fan of, but this one was super clean, and even had essential oils and wood shavings to use if you wanted. It also had a little washing station to clean up properly after use with actual hand towels, soap and a wash bag. Amazing fresh water from a tap to use for drinking and washing up too. We filled up a few bottles for the road.
The running creek was a piece of heaven as it was really hot when we arrived - so standing in the stream to cool down was the best feeling.
My 10 year old daughter is a huge animal lover, so when the owners let her help in the evening and morning with chores, she was thrilled. Feeding and cleaning up after their beautiful rescued blind horses actually beat out Disneyland in her opinion. It was an unforgettable experience for the whole family, and we all wish we could have stayed longer.
Take a fishing rod if you go!
Thank you for creating such an amazing place to stay!!
