El Deseo Ranch is 1/2 mile east of La Cumbre Peak, the highest mountain in back of Santa Barbara. Our gate is off of East Camino Cielo, one of Santa Barbara County's most scenic mountain roads with spectacular views of the Santa Barbara Channel Islands and Santa Ynez Valley. Our 160 acre ranch offers a quiet mountain retreat in the wilderness yet is only a half hour drive to the City of Santa Barbara. Our land is mostly chaparral with pine forests on the higher peaks. There are several hiking trails nearby as well as rock climbing and bouldering. We are next to the Los Padres National Forrest. Hang gliders and paragliders have two launch spots close by. It is a popular spot for both mountain biking and road biking. We are 8 miles west of Divide Peak OHV area. We have a small herd of Miniature Nubian dairy goats on the property that enjoy hiking with guests. We also have chickens and four friendly dogs. We welcome visiting dogs who are friendly to strangers and new dogs. We can not accept any aggressive dogs on our property.
We offer private tent camping with scenic mountain and ocean views. Our tent area is about 60 feet from our parking area so you will need to walk a bit away from your car. We welcome car campers but our parking areas are not as private as our tent camping areas. Our RV space is just off our driveway so you will experience some traffic although it is usually less than 10 cars per day. We experience strong winter storms on the mountain and give refunds for campers due to stormy weather.

We were looking for a weekend of hiking with our dogs and this was perfect. We could have stayed several more days and not run out of trails to hike from our campsite.
The location is great. Such wonderful views of the mountains and ocean. Just feet from the campsite is a hill top to watch the sunset.
The facilities are basic but clean, a compost toilet and solar shower. Just what we needed when camping in our VW Westy.
We will be back.
A welcoming surprise we got as we drove up to our campsite were two deers running across the road! The site was private and pristine. The late rising moon afforded brilliant starry skies. It was cold, but we had warm sleeping bags. The next morning we heard the resident goats bleating closer to us, and were pleased to meet the property owner his heard. We took a rigorous a 5 mile hike up the road to the Rock Garden for spectacular views! I'm sure my husband & I will come back soon!

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay. Please come back and visit us again and you can spend some time with the goats.
Very peaceful and quiet place, beautiful night skies. Close to EJ paragliding launch and a short drive from town. Great place to watch sunrises and sunsets. Perfect place for my 21 foot camping trailer and my 4x4 F150. I loved my stay!
For those of you who need to stay connected, No cell signal right at the camp site. I used Weboost Connect RV 65 booster and got enough service on my Tmobile to send texts, make phone calls and check emails. I could not get Zoom or Whatsapp video to work. Short hike up from the campsite and my phone worked just fine.

This Ranch and campsite is surrounded by National Forest and is located among tons outdoor appreciation and recreation opportunities. Only a short way off of Camino Cielo, you feel like you are the only ones around, although the thoughtful and friendly hosts are only down the road. My family came up and hiked with the hosts which include two people, several goats, and a few dogs. The people involved (Andrea and Paul) have thought of everything, and have set up a tent site that feel more like an outdoor apartment with rooms than a campsite. We used the back of the site with the hammock as a lounge/living room.
Hiking with goats is really unique and educational experience which my son loved and he can’t wait to go back, especially after catching sunrise from the top of the hill right next to the campsite.
The ranch is so centrally located to all of the trailheads off of the ridge, so I was able to ride my favorite mountain biking trails in Romero Canyon from the top instead of the bottom for a nice change of pace. Overall, we packed in an unbelievable amount of activities for a short stay and had an amazing secluded home base that we are sure to return to.

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at El Deseo Ranch. Please come back to camp and visit the goats again soon.
The property is very beautiful and quiet, with great views in every direction. There’s a super cute table and chairs setup, hammock, solar shower and composting toilet all with complete privacy. We set up our camp chairs overlooking the ocean, our dog played with their friendly dogs, and we walked and biked on the numerous trails surrounding the site. It was an amazing week and we even got to meet the hosts!

We really enjoyed having you visit and so glad you enjoyed our land. I hope that you can come back again for more biking and hiking. Our dog Gracie misses your dog Rex.
Beautiful location, great hosts and additional experiences well worth it!

We sure enjoyed having you and your boys visit. Paul is still talking about how much fun he had on our goat walk with your boys. I made pizza last night with some of the mozzarella cheese we made from the goat's milk and thought of you. You and your family are welcome back any time!
We had such a relaxing time at on Andrea’s ranch. The only thing we were change is being able to stay a few more days. The road is winding but well worth it for beautiful views and a very secluded and rustic camp. Perfect for learning the land and getting off the grid. Andrea was very sweet, accommodating and informative. We had everything we needed for our overnight stay and got to go on a hike with astoundingly beautiful views (did I mention that already;)?) . We loved our time there and hope to be back again.

We enjoyed meeting Nina and Adam and hope they will come back for another goat hike with beautiful views soon.
Great spot to camp. Close to many hikes and Andrea helped us get to trails from her property. Her dogs were so friendly and played with our dog very well. The location was beautiful and I hope to stay again soon!
