The vibe at Private American River Camping
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
The area is beautiful and the campsite is super spacious! There’s a wonderful group kitchen area that was perfect for our group of 25 people.
The downside .... you are expected to bring all of your camping gear in by wheel barrow. The short hike isn’t bad until you are carrying the big stuff. The bathrooms were too far, in my opinion, for night time visits (we were in Camp One).
The Rafting folks were awesome as were the rafting trips! A shout out to Casey and Jeff! You guys are awesome!
WOW! Private American River Camping is an incredible group camp. Nestled right along the South Fork of the American River, this camp offers unparalleled access to super fun river rafting, tubing, kayaking and paddle-boarding. It also has the amenities you need to make hosting a big camping group fun and easy.
I had my birthday party here with 25 friends or so. We arranged a shuttle for us up to Marshall, which is a great drop-off spot that makes for the the perfect couple hour float back down to the campsite (check out Coloma Shuttle for this). Our group had a mix of inner tubes and paddle boards and had so much fun we ended up going again the next day! There are some real rapids, so definitely be up for adventure and everyone needs to wear a life jacket! It’s a county regulation and also just good for safety.
You can rent life jackets at the nearby River Store (http://theriverstore.com/services/rentals) or buy them.
The kitchen area is really helpful for cooking for large groups. Tons of counter space for prep and cooking, a great cabinet to store your food, and a big double sink with soap and sponges made everything feel so easy. There is also plenty of table space for eating, we could have sat seventy probably. The bathrooms and showers were nice and clean.
Overall this was just the perfect spot to host a big group of campers who want to play on the river. I can’t wait to come back and maybe book a rafting trip down the more intense part of the river as well. Thanks Jeremiah and team for an amazing adventure!
Huge campsite right next to the American River. Great swimming hole and small beach 2 min walk from kitchen area. Outdoor kitchen area was great. Sink with potable water. Wasps in the kitchen were a tad annoying but no big deal. Big picnic tables with plenty of places to sit. Flushing toilets and showers with hot water too! Wonderful place to go and have a river adventure!
This was an amazing camp site right on the river with stunning views, lots of privacy and great bathrooms/ showers. They helped us coordinate a wonderful raft outing and we will be back for sure!
Hosted a group of 25 people camping here. Private, close to the river, big kitchen area (BYO everything except running water).
Loads of camping and table space for big group dinner. Excellent location for a weekend river rafting or tubing adventure!
