Highway 1 is closed at Gorda. Big Sur can only be reached from the north down Hwy 1, or from the east over the mountain on Nacimiento-Fergusson road from Hwy 101. After booking be sure to have Written Directions and House Manual (not just address).

Along a wild and lonely coastline where the mountains meet the sea, lies a minimalistic homestead beside the flowing creek. Practicing simple eco-sustainable and environmentally friendly living techniques. All contributions help to facilitate the nurturing and sharing of this sacred space.

Surrounded by ocean and forest, there are many hiking trails and beaches nearby. A great place for meditation or exploration, although some areas can be very dangerous with steep cliffs and loose rocks.

There is no internet, electricity or phone service on-site or nearby. There is drinking water and an outdoor open kitchen with pots & pans, dishes, a sink, stove, and a firepit with grill for cooking. No personal fires. Bring food to cook for yourself or collaborate on meals. There are composting poopers.

This is not a campground or fancy resort. This is an outdoor living environment on land that features an organic garden, fruit trees, chickens, goats, pigs, bees, dogs and cats. Be aware that things like spiders, snakes, racoons, mice, poison oak, etc, exist in natural areas like this.

Do not expect a greeting. Check in and out if possible; hosts may be away, busy or asleep after dark. You are welcome to explore the grounds. This is a place to help people help themselves. If you need something, please ask. Arrive before dark to easily find your place.

Be prepared for independence, with a light, warm clothes, plenty of gas, groceries, ice, wood and anything else you may want or need from town. Make sure you follow the written directions and have them saved, printed or written down, as well as the house manual.

There are other sites and rustic accomodations available that are not listed on Hipcamp (some have beds). Please inquire if interested.

Inquiries may be responded to by Maggie who does not live on site.

No personal fires, besides in designated areas.

Please bring minimal waste and separate it into recyclables or pack it out.

Alcohol is discouraged as well as loud electronic devices.

This was better than we could have ever guessed. I don;t want to spoil the surprise but it has inspired me to see that places like this are out there for us to discover. Perfect camping and community. I hope to be able to share a homestead this generous and enchanting with the world one day. Until then, I'll just keep going back to visit.

Such a special place, David was a great host as the owners weren't there. Met cool people, ate good food, close to beach, creek to explore, waterfall near by. Will definitely be returning one day :)

We really enjoyed our time at A Place to Camp. It was a perfect location to have a weekend of digital detox off grid. Our hosts were friendly and open, the other guests were also friendly and kind. My boyfriend and I enjoyed our little corner of the camp site, walk to the beach and short drive to Sand Dollar Beach. We will definitely go back for another visit.

Awesome. Everything I expected and more. Many thanks for a great few days!

This place is magical. I will definitely be back. Thank you for having me!

A really special place -- lots to explore on the property, short walk to the ocean. The owners and caretakers have built an inclusive community. Other campers have a positive energy.
