We are just a hop, skip and jump from Empire State Mines where you can experience and learn about the Gold Rush - even take a mine cart ride down into the mine shaft, We are close to Yuba River, voted one of America's top 10 most beautiful rivers. There are many riverside swimming areas and gold panning locations. Visit a local u-pick berry farm. We had a fantastic stay at Melodee and Daniel’s. Outdoor shower and double sink station made everything very convenient.
They were super friendly and helpful with great ideas for things to do. Loved the platform for the tent and the hammock. Fresh herbs from garden, morning coffee and GREAT for kids.
Thank you Melodee and Daniel!!!
This camp was amazing! From the moment we arrived, we felt like we were welcomed by some long time friends. Melodee showed us around the property and we were able to assist with feeding the animals and introducing ourselves to everyone. The whole trip was an interactive experience, but when we needed time alone, it was private. The deck was a wonderful space to set up the camp and all of the accessories were charming. How can you complain about homemade goat milk soap? Melodee had great recommendations for areas to visit and things to do. We ended up driving out to Nevada City and the Yuba River and it was only about a half hour drive. There were plenty of activities to do on the homestead if you prefer to stay local. We decided to indulge in the breakfast Saturday morning and it was wonderful. You can really tell that Melodee loves cooking for people and she puts a lot of love in her food. Everything was made from scratch or local. All of her dishes are from yard sales around the area, so they have this wonderful charm to them. We also had s'mores with the family in the afternoon and ended up staying up late chatting. They were great company, from the four year old ambassador/chicken-wrangler to friendly dogs that could never get enough pets. I am so incredibly glad that we decided to try out this Hipcamp and I hope we can come back sometime soon!
49er homestead is a true delight!
We had three kids with us, all under age ten. They had a blast! Melodee and Dan are fantastic hosts, providing extra cozy comforts to the stay.
Melodee communicated thoroughly and promptly ahead of our trip to let us know how best to prepare, for their location and for the weather. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a sweet welcome basket, handwritten instructions and directions about where to find everything. All made our arrival smooth and simple.
They have provided a wonderful experience, from the outdoor shower to the hammock to the homemade baked goods and fresh goat milk! Wow! We felt so well cared for and in the presence of highly competent homesteaders.
They have so much to offer the kids: trampoline, goats and birds of many varieties, fruit trees, beanbags/cornhole, and a zip line! So much fun!!! Also, hammock and cups, pic box table and chairs were much appreciated by us all.
The only minor downside is a little poison oak and mosquitoes. Melodee has homemade natural bug repellent! P.O. Is easily avoidable. No big deal for such a great time. Highly recommend this hipcamp!
Great place to stay with kids!
Great place to visit with kids! Our hosts were extremely friendly and welcoming and our kids loved the goats, chickens and dogs not to mention the zip line, trampoline and swing set!! The extra touches like iced water, homemade soap and an edible flower arrangement were all really lovely and made it a very special weekend. There is lots to do in the area and the 49er Homestead was a wonderful base for exploring.
We recently returned from our second stay at Melodee and Daniel's. We had such a good time the first time, we decided to come back and glad we did.
My kids love their animals, have become great friends with their dogs, and their kids. The hosts are so friendly and thoughtful. One of my daughters got stung by a bee and Melodee brought out things to help with the sting.
They also provide coffee and tea in the mornings, which is a treat, in addition to a water cooler with ice water. This is not roughing it camping, which works so well for our family.
We can't wait to return!
Kind and generous hosts!
Super nice folks. Felt like visiting family. Perfect for us novice campers who had never set up a tent or used a camp stove before! And even though I like my bathroom at home, I miss the outdoor shower!
We had such an amazing time. Melodee and Daniel did everything to make us feel at home. The location is awesome, super convenient (especially if you want to visit the Yuba river and Nevada City). The site is in the middle of the nature. We had a very nice platform to put our tent, and a great table to have our lunches & dinners. We just loved it!
And Daniel also prepared everything for us to have an outdoor cinema experience during one of the nights! We watched a movie... under the trees & stars. What else?
No doubt, we will be back!! My wife and I and our 2 daughters are big fans!
Our stay at Melody and Dan’s 49er Homestead far exceeded my expectations, and my expectations were high! The location is great, easy to get to some stunning places, central enough to get what you need and on a land teeming with wildlife, making us feel like we were definitely away from home: Little frogs hopping about in the grass, goats that we had the chance to milk, pigs, chickens and an incredible garden. But the real magic was their hospitality: Every morning Melody and Dan made us the most delicious breakfast, much of it made from their own garden and land, there were teas and coffee available all day, lanterns, a fire pit, even s’mores! They seemed to pull out all the stops and made themselves available for any and all of our needs. Our daughter even brought back some frogs home and we have a tiny bit of the homestead here with us. We would go back in a heartbeat and feel so thankful for all the kindness and generosity they showed.
49er homestead is a gold mine!
Melodee and Daniel were incredible hosts and made us feel welcome right away. They were so thoughtful about the little things, like fresh picked flowers on the picnic table, clean towels, and a water cooler with mint from their garden! There were lots of mosquitoes and Melodee shared her homemade bug repellent spray, salve for our baby, and itch relief cream. They went above and beyond! Huge bonuses were a gas fire pit, a sink for dishes, and a heated outdoor shower.
Definitely ask Melodee to make breakfast. Don't think twice! It's so nice to sleep in a tent and wake up to hot coffee and scrambled eggs that you didn't make! And she's an amazing cook with lots of knowledge about ayurvedic plants and teas which she is happy to share. Cute kids and pets on the property too. Overall, we had an amazing time and we would definitely go back for a chill camping weekend.
(PS If you're covid careful like us, definitely recommend bringing some wipes to clean surfaces. Also they have the sweetest pups and orange tabby you're going to be so sad not to pet).
Five million stars!
