I was not contacted by the host nor Hipcamp about a cancellation. This meant that I arrived to my camping site only to find out that I was trespassing - the host had left the property two weeks prior. Not only was this embarrassing but also potentially dangerous in rural Arizona. I would highly recommend booking with a more communicative host.

Hosts were quick to reply to inquiry and messages, very welcoming, and incredibly kind and helpful! We only had time to stay a quick overnight, but I am sure we would have enjoyed a longer stay if we had the time! Everything was exactly as described and my kiddo and I very much appreciated the hospitality and above-and-beyond helpfulness of our host family!

The wife & I had an excellent experience at The Roost. Directions to the location were clear & we had no trouble finding the place. Our hosts were very gracious, offering us a welcome & even bringing us a jar of homemade pickles.
There is a compost toilet on the property, a short walk from where we stayed. It’s nice; toilet paper & plenty of privacy. You can lock the door & use the restroom without fear of someone spitting you. No showers. The campsite is flat & dry, as long as you don’t book your camping after a rain. Plenty of shade beneath a few trees. The wind while we visited was very blustery, so be sure to check the forecast prior to booking. The temperature at night was a bit chilly, so be prepared to bring layers.
The night sky is pretty dark here. You aren’t able to see the Milky Way, but things are dark enough that stargazing is impressive. It’s a wonderful place to getaway from the hustle & bustle of Phoenix, without having to travel super far.
Our only issue was the lack of privacy. The campsite is relatively near the house, with little shrubbery to protect from feelings of exposure. We also had a lengthy chat with the host upon our arrival, which as lovely as it was, is not in line with our preference to be left alone. If you prefer no contact check-in or would like complete privacy, be sure to specify this upon booking.
We’d definitely love to return to this spot as things warm up! Despite the wind, we had a great time stargazing & enjoying the peace of the desert. Thanks for a great stay!

Leila and her family were very helpful and welcoming. Stayed here with a 27 foot airstream. Nice shelter - got water and a dump and used the electrical. Took a couple day trips to Phoenix and hiked in the local area - great hike about 3 miles away. Fantastic value.

Beautiful, quiet and flat. Extra touches like the fresh eggs and water fill appreciated. Leila and Dan were very friendly and welcoming. Enjoyed sharing stories with our hosts. 5 stars!

I chose the roost because I wanted a nice and safe place for my daughter and I to hang out with close proximity to Phoenix. We received all of that and more.
A wonderful couple lives here with their very entertaining daughters, elusive kitties, gentle giant of a dog and a plethora or chickens/rooster. We felt very welcome and comfortable.
We had site 2 and it was perfect for our teardrop with circular pullout and a bit of shade. A fire ring with wood (we brought our own, but it went fast so we did purchase a ream) and 5 gallon water just was waiting for us. The spot was far enough from their home that although in view, we didn't feel too close. An open air compost toilet shed not far away was private and clean. The kids were so sweet and collected us some small sticks and wood for our fire which was lovely. My daughter and I sat outside by our fire ring for hours talking, roasting hot dogs/marshmallows and listening to the coyotes and mesmerized by all of the stars and big beautiful sky. I did wake up at 3am to some gusty wind that led me outside to make sure the fire had been put out and wasn't hot anymore. I do suggest doing this before 3am 🤣. We woke up and the kids gave us a little tour and then we were on our way.
All in all a very relaxing stay and gracious hosts. I did read about someone saying they drove by because this was residential area and they felt misled, but this is not a residential area. This is a nice 3ish acre of land that can view maybe a rooftop or two of a few homes and none close enough to matter. Their property is level and easy for tents or RV. We left with some fresh eggs and priceless memories!

Lovely spot with views of the local mountains. Great location if hiking Table Top Wilderness. Nice hosts. The homemade pickles were a nice treat.

I didn’t get to the site until around 10pm. Directions were very clear and site was all ready for me. It was a nice safe camp for my dog and I for the night before we continued on our journey. Thank you for allowing us to stay.

great hosts, they welcomed us upon arrival even though we came at midnight on Christmas! They helped us tremendously with our RV as well, which we had never used before. We also bought some fresh eggs from their chickens and they tasted delicious! We highly recommend!

Leila and her husband were welcoming and greeted me with homemade cucumber pickles upon arrival. The site is as described in the listing. It is a perfect site to spend the night for solo traveler or a couple. I got there just before sunset so I didn’t have any trouble finding the place. Once it gets dark it might be hard to find the site but I’m sure Leila and her husband will make sure you find the site. I bought a dozen eggs from them which was as organic and free range as it can get. Thank you both for being wonderful hosts!

The Roost was AWESOME!!! We were traveling across country with our dog and needed a place to stay for the night and by camping here, we got so much more! Our host was friendly and very welcoming. We made a fire at the site and he hooked us up with some kindling and some fruit from his garden. The girls were sweet and super cute:) We had a few nice walks around the area and decided that this was one of our favorite sites during our 15 days of travel. Wish we could have stayed longer. Would love to come back.

We ended up not even stopping, just drove by. Felt just like it would’ve been setting up camp in someone’s back yard. We ended up driving another hour out and found a wonderful place in the mountains., a place truly remote. Not residential.

Such a beautiful spot! The host was there to greet us and brought us water to make our dinner with. The ground was hard and difficult to get our tent stakes into, and the spot we chose in the dark turned out to have many tiny ants. But we definitely enjoyed our evening, and would totally recommend it!

It was easy to get to yet secluded and quiet. The actual site was cleared out well and flat for easy drive up and tent setup. Hosts were very friendly and welcoming.

The hosts we’re great! (It was HOT (duh) and the neighbor’s dog barked a lot during the night) BUT the site was excellent and the hosts we’re welcoming, interesting, and caring.

I needed a safe place to stay away from the city on my way from Texas to Phoenix. I couldn't have found a better place. Leila and her family are so sweet and kind and welcoming. I wish I could have them as my neighbors all the time. I felt like I was part of their family and I felt like I fit in. I stayed for 3 nights and it was so wonderful to sleep to silence away from the busy city. I absolutely recommend this spot if you're looking for a nice quiet, beautiful, Arizona desert location!
