Wake to spectacular desert views of the tabletop mountains. We are surrounded by vacant land and scenery that goes on for miles. We are working to transform our property into a permaculture oasis, that we would love to share with you.

This entire area was once owned by John Wayne and his partner Louis Johnson. There are all sorts of interesting attractions nearby. On the Ak-Chin reservation there's Harras Casino, but there is also a really interesting museum showcasing the history and culture of the tribe. There is the fantastic recreation complex Copper Sky with athletic fields, indoor and out pickle ball courts, pool and gym. We also have the Maha Ganapati Temple of Arizona nearby.

Coming out to Maricopa, you leave behind your worries in the city. Amongst the mountains and wildlife, you find Leila & Dan's place - 3 acres of solitude and great views. Dan & Leila showed us their garden and chickens. At sunset, they joined us with their two daughters, for conversation at the firepit. We had a great time getting to know them and hear about their gardening projects around the property. Their sweet dog joined us for the evening- always a joy for us to play with a pup! By nightfall, we had a clear sky with a bright moon. The skies out here are incredible for star watching.

--- Entering the property ---
In the instructions given after booking, you'll learn, don't enter from the West side... listen to them, you most likely won't make it through the sandy wash there. Upon turning on the road, you'll pass the main gate (their address number will be beside the gate) and go to the second gate (as seen in photos above) and that is the one that leads to the camp spot. (There is a photo above where you can see the gate and the camp site in the distance)

--- The Bathroom ---
There is a bathroom built with a 10-gallon bucket and toilet seat for your use. Built-up with a privacy wall and open roof - for night time use, bring a flashlight or use the light of the moon.

---- Cell service----
I have ATT as my provider and had two bars of service while out here on the property. While the internet may be slow out here, you will be able to make a call or send or a text.

We booked Leila’s spot last minute, as all state parks were full, and we’re glad they were! The spot was much larger than a state park would have been. We loved sitting by the fire enjoying the views and were amazed by the amount of stars. Leila was a perfect host and gifted us some delicious pickled green beans. We definitely recommend The Roost!

We loved The Roost!!! The spot was a perfect weekend getaway for desert camping. Leila and Dan were wonderful hosts and checked in on us through our time. We had a great time talking to them and hearing about their property, and talking with their girls! They provided extra amenities that made a difference in our stay (e.g. out house, 5 gal of water, etc. ). We highly recommend and can’t wait to return!!

We had a great stay at the Roost! The hosts Dan and Leila were very hospitable, there when we arrived to direct us to our site and were there in the morning to chat a bit. The site is nice, clean and ready for you to have a great camp.
