HIGH CLEARANCE VEHICLE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, i drove here in a civic and bottomed out the car multiple times as well as scraping the bumper. I did make it without any major damage but also ended up almost giving up trying to get there after Google maps took me into someone's yard but the roads weren't too far off and I was able to find them even in the dark although I would recommend going in the daytime to see where you're going. The campsite felt like you were literally in the middle of nowhere in a giant field which was nice, noone else was around and it was very quiet. Lots of cowpiles, i guess the fields was used for grazing in the past. At least 4 miles off a paved road but most of the way is by gravel roads but they aren't maintained very well.

Quiet Night in the Desert
This is a wide open plot of high desert close to I-40. It was very deserted--a couple of cars passed on the dirt access road while we were there, but it was otherwise very isolated. There is plenty of space to roam and pretty close to the Petrified Forest. Our dog loved wandering through the sand exploring. The sky is wide open and gorgeous. Definitely do not follow google maps to arrive here--it will lead you astray!
