Vans, RVs, travel trailers and other vehicles... Enjoy 40 acres of beautiful mountain prairie on this private homestead. The stargazing will blow you away as there is zero light pollution. Drive right up to your perfect site and use existing fire rings or build your own! (For walk-in camping, please see our "dispersed camp" listing!)

Possible animals, plants, and crawlies you MAY rub elbows with (or at least spot from a distance): Elk, cows, coyotes, javelina pigs, bobcats, pack rats, pronghorn antelope, goats, prairie dogs, mountain lion, rattlesnakes, owls, ravens and hawks. Various cacti, goathead thorns. Scorpions and various spiders and the usual suspects. Everything in its season, of course. :) DON'T LET THIS LIST SCARE YOU! Just keep an eye out and be responsible with your food and garbage, and keep your children and pets under your supervision and control...

Bring a flashlight for those nighttime trips to the bathroom trailer. There are solar lights inside but you'll need a backup light for those times when it doesn't charge very well. With no electricity or lights throughout the property, walking around in the dead of night is like stumbling through inky blackness. So bring some reliable lighting with you!

Always check the weather at zip code 86320 before coming. We are open all year during any weather (excepting emergencies) so you are responsible for making sure the weather forecast is compatible with your camping expectations!

The campground host lives on the property on a small homestead. This is where you will check-in and where you can pick up water and firewood. Clean, drinkable water is available to purchase either in gallon jugs or bottle form - whichever is currently available. Firewood is also available for sale or you are welcome to cut up any of the fallen trees on the property for free. And don't be afraid to ask for help if you forgot something you need! Did you forget your propane water boiler? Did you leave behind your little charcoal grill? Did you suddenly realize you forgot to pack your flashlight or your tarp? If you realize you're lacking some kind of essential then ask the host! There is a possibility he has something you can borrow while you're visiting!

After checking in, the host will show you the access to the vehicle camping area. From there, just drive up the access road to find your perfect camping spot and enjoy the sun and the stars! There are no designated roads or paths in the camping area so "Choose Your Own Adventure!" And thanks for choosing A Spark in the Dark Campground!
