Are you looking for a quiet place to get off the road, put your seat back, watch the sunset, and catch some heavy ZZzz's in your vehicle? You've found it right here at The Spark.

Maybe you aren't interested in camping... you've been on the road for a while and just need a safe and comfortable place to pull over and sleep in your vehicle for the night. We've all been there during long road trips. The Spark offers a peaceful and scenic area you can unwind at. You'll have access to our clean Porta-John (much nicer than you'd expect!) and all the common areas including a firepit located near your parking area that you can take advantage of if you'd like! Firewood is available for sale from your camp host... :)

Bring a flashlight for those nighttime trips to the restroom. There are solar lights inside but you'll need a backup light for those times when it doesn't charge very well. With no electricity or lights throughout the property, walking around in the dead of night is like stumbling through inky blackness. So bring some reliable lighting with you!

Always check the weather at zip code 86320 before coming. We are open all year during any weather (excepting emergencies) so you are responsible for making sure the weather forecast is compatible with your camping expectations! Weather considerations: during windy days prepare to pay special attention to anchoring things like tents, tables, and shade canopies. When rain is in the forecast it can get very muddy out here very fast. So if you see that rain is a possibility, be prepared for that. :)

The campground host lives on the property on a small homestead. This is where you will check-in and where you can pick up water and firewood. Drinking water is available to purchase in gallon jugs. Firewood is also available for sale or you are welcome to cut up any of the fallen trees on the property for free. And don't be afraid to ask for help if you forgot something you need! Did you forget your propane water boiler? Did you leave behind your little charcoal grill? Did you suddenly realize you forgot to pack your flashlight? If you realize you're lacking some kind of essential then ask the host! There is a possibility he has something you can borrow while you're visiting! **Please be aware that there is NO trash pickup at this time for the campground so be prepared to pack out what you bring in. :) Any dumpsters you may see on your way in are privately owned by other people and are not for our use. :) ** Also The Spark is a private homestead - there are no hookups for RVs. This is a boondocking experience. :)

Available for rent RIDICULOUSLY CHEAP are 4-person pop-up tents with tarp footprints, 6 foot folding utility tables, and 10 x 10 feet shade canopies. Everything comes with extra long heavy duty ground stakes. Styles and availability are limited and vary from hour-to-hour throughout each day.

After checking in, the host will show you the site where you will be "parking and snoozing." If you're pulling a travel trailer or driving a motor home and need some space to really spread out then please see our listing called Drive-To-Your-Site. Leave a note about your experience in our Guest Book while you're here, and thanks for choosing A Spark in the Dark Private Campground!

(Check-in and check-out times are NOT strict. :) BUT if you're checking in very late please let the host know via message and he'll explain what to expect so that check-in isn't necessary.)

Clifford is a great host! Super friendly and responsive. The campsite is a nice remote spot not far off the highway. Beautiful stargazing, a fire pit, and bathroom. Thank you!

Spark was a perfect spot for me. I was driving from California to Texas during the coronavirus pandemic. After 12 hours on the road, I needed a quiet and safe place to sleep in my car for the night. I couldn’t have asked for anything better than the Spark ranch. It’s located on a huge parcel of land just 5-10 minutes off of Interstate 40. Totally private and serene. I didn’t hear a single noise other than the birds. And the self check-in/out process was a breeze. There’s good cell reception and a trailer that’s been converted to an off grid restroom. It’s a no frills setup, but it’s clean and spacious. Overall it was a really peaceful and convenient experience. Great bargain at $15/night.

When you get off the highway just keep following the road and directions. You will see the signs. We absolutely loved Clifford's property. If you need a safe place place to crash this is a very safe place. But I do recommend you upgrade to the camping for an additional $5. The views are unbelievable from the left hill. He was such a great host and his trusty companion, Gunner, was so sweet. We will definitely stay on our next trip out west, without question. We did not use the potty so we can't comment on that.

Absolutely fantastic spot! Cliff went out of his way to make us feel welcomed and offered a few suggestions for the best parking spots. Will most definitely stop here again next time we're traveling through the area. The star filled sky simply can't be beat!

I very very very much enjoyed my stay under the cool, peaceful, twinkly sky at the Spark in the Dark Campground. Clifford is a gracious host and took good care of me, I was able to park next to a couple trees on the expanse of his property and appreciate the nighttime sounds and views of the Ash Fork area. He also informed me when comet Neowise wouId most likely be visible. I like that his campsite has a few options for camping preferences.
