We camped at Honeybee Hill as some of their first campers. The hosts Lana & Jay were super nice and helpful. Lana helped us with directions when we took a wrong turn. Jay showed us to our campsite and brought up a cool fire pit made out of half a barrel. We had a large campsite all to ourselves. We stared at the stars and satellites and saw many shooting stars.

The site could be improved by having a picnic table to cook and eat on, and a garbage receptacle nearby. Once the sites are numbered/identified, this will help prevent other campers from coming up on our site with their 4-wheeler. Be aware of roaming dogs off-leash. Friendly dogs, but they upset our own dog who stays close to us in our camp & is a passionate protector of us. We had a stressful scuffle when the friendly dogs came strolling through our camp unexpectedly.

This may be obvious, but If you go for a dip in any nearby lakes, make sure to FULLY dry off IMMEDIATELY and shower yourself as soon as possible (there is a shower on site.) I failed to do these things and came home with a wicked case of swimmer’s itch. If you ever wondered what it feels like to have a maddening, incessant burning itch ALL OVER your body, try swimmer’s itch. One week later, the itch has calmed for the most part. Now the “blisters” are healing. I look like I have chicken pox or shoot a lot of drugs.

At night, loons on the lakes will sing loudly. In the early morning hours, float/ski planes will be taking off every 5-10 minutes.

Overall the experience for one night was mixed. Mostly pleasant, but once the site is more developed (they just started HipCamp) visitors will have a more relaxing stay.
