The surrounding landscape is wet, so although off-trail hiking is permitted, it can be pretty boggy. There are many mosquitos in the summer, so definitely bring repellant, and maybe even a head net. A nearby trail leads hikers one mile to McKinley River. Keep your eyes peeled for beavers, moose, and grizzly along the way!

Of the official campsites we stayed in the Denali, this was by far the most isolated and least hectic which is exactly what we wanted. The views from the campsite are great and we were able to spread out from other campers (at least in July)
