Our mini ranch was previously owned by a local family. The homesite once had a beautiful rock house with a craftsman barn nearby. Both were burned down before our family purchased the land. It is also believed that a church was on the property and that unmarked graves are in that location. We are in the process of building a tiny house where the house once stood. There are 50 acres surrounding us with Sand Mountain behind us and a woodsy ridge to the front. Lookout Mountain can be seen from one of the camping areas. There is a logging road behind us that can be hiked on to the top of Sand Mountain. The view is awesome at the top. We have Texas Longhorn cattle, free range chickens, ducks, guinea hens, Idaho Pasture pigs, Twix the Llama, four dogs and three cats. There is an old pear tree, apple tree and a mulberry tree. We are growing blueberry shrubs(not quite ready to eat yet), vegetables, flowers and herbs. Our plan is to one day have horses. A natural spring is at one end of the property and a creek runs along the front pasture. Learn more about this land: Pitch your tent in a shady grove with a view of the farm and Lookout Mountain or in a shady area near the spring. Access to water spigots at homesite. Very private. Near Little River Canyon and the wonderful mountain town of Mentone, Close to Ft. Payne-home of country music supergroup Alabama. We have 50 acres of pasture surrounded by hillsides of dense trees. Texas Longhorn cattle, free-range chickens, ducks and guinea hens, 2 Idaho Pasture Pigs, Katahdin Sheep, 1 Llama, 2 Great Pyrenees, 1 Golden Retriever, 1 mixed. We follow Leave No Trace and ask that you pack out all trash:).

Springhorn Ranch
Nice quiet shaded spot.
The campsite at Springhorn was nice and shaded, with flat ground for our tent and a stone fire ring. Peaceful place to unwind after a day of waterfall hiking on Lookout Mountain. We were glad to have had spare throwaway groundcloths (old shower curtains) with us to put Uber out tent, as the cows had been in the area recently doing what cows do (good idea to have a spare pair of camp shoes, as well). Not sure that a car with low ground clearance could have made the drive through the hay field to get to the site, but our Jeep did fine in 2WD. Great communications with the host, and the fresh eggs were greatly appreciated! Safe and secure - the site is on the back side of the farm and front gate is locked with a code. It's nice to be able to leave your gear set up when you leave camp to go exploring. Perfect base camp location for several days of exploring the area. Would definitely recommend!

A Hidden Gem of all Camps
This is one of the most beautiful places we have ever stayed with Hipcamp. Brad and Michelle are extremely welcoming hosts with a gorgeous property in “paradise valley”. They have a well managed and cared for farm with many free range animals and they even gave us some farm fresh eggs to cook one morning. The campsite is very private, and you get a great sunrise view as the sun comes over lookout point. This place exceeded all expectations and we hope to visit again!

Weekend away from Huntsville
We loved Brad and Michele's land, animals, and hospitality! Our aim was to go camping for just a weekend getaway to disconnect from technology (minus watching the Texas A&M v. Alabama game 10/9/2021) , and this spot was perfect for it. There's grocery stores and food options nearby if needed and farms all around to watch cows and sheep spend their days moving from field to field. We brought our two cats as well that are leashed trained since we planned on staying at the site the whole time. The spot we set up at was perfect for them. In between a few trees they could watch birds and squirrels, while still being far enough away from dense trees in case they came out of their harnesses and we needed to catch them. Being a young couple that wants to own some land and animals in the future this spot and trip was an amazing reminder of the work it takes to get there and to maintain an area that can provide and spread joy.
