Michele and Brad were great hosts! I showed up in 20 degree weather and Brad was more than happy to show me around the property. There are over a dozen longhorn and steer who were delightfully curious of my arrival. I pet the few that would get within arms reach of me and it was AMAZING. There's one steer in particular, her name is Red, she is the most curious of them all. She had to make sure my tent passed her taste test so she licked to make sure it was okay for me to camp among the herd. They all stayed around as I set up my little place and made my fire. The baby calves were excited. I woke up with the sun and went to explore as much as I could in such bitter temperatures - during the Summer and Spring months, the weather is perfect! I walked down to another pasture and played with the chickens and the owners 2 pups. I walked along the fence line to see their little vineyard and bee hives. It was time to leave, I packed up my gear, cleaned up my mess, made sure my fire was smothered and cold, and said goodbye to all the longhorns. Michele saw me out and made sure I didn't need anything else for my next journey.
Springhorn Ranch was cozy, quiet, and safe. A few key characteristics for a solo traveler like myself.
Beautiful land and such a friendly, generous family. They brought us fresh eggs for the morning and provided firewood. Lookout Mountain can be seen from the camping spot. Great for tents and hammocks.
Camped here for one night with a few friends and had a blast! Got to explore the farm, pet some goats and cows, and see shooting stars in a cloudless sky. Very close to Desoto State Park and Little River Canyon. The family is super kind, and their son even brought his guitar up to our campsite and played some songs for us around the campfire!
We made an impromptu detour and landed at Springhorn Ranch this weekend, and it was lovely! Brad and Michele are great hosts, very responsive and welcoming of our last minute request. The site was peaceful and private, with a fine sunrise view over the hills and distant mountains. We hope to be back again.
Perfect weekend getaway!
Springhorn Ranch was the perfect weekend getaway! Brad & Michele were extremely welcoming & even greeted us with fresh eggs upon arrival. They have a beautiful property that’s fun to explore with an awesome campsite! The animals are the best bonus to the site, especially Harry! :) We would come back every weekend if we could!
