This is the second time we’ve stayed here and has become a favorite in Colorado. Joe is hospitable and helpful with our odd arrival times. Perfect location to explore and rest. We will return!

I do not recommend this campground and would not camp here again. As a seasoned traveler, this place fell short of my expectations due to the following reasons:
1) my friend got a nasty gash on her leg due to barbed wire in the pit. Host claimed barbed wire was “not on his property;" yet, it was RIGHT inside the tent pit.
2) other guests showed up to our spot late at night and proceeded to camp right IN our spot. I texted him in the moment expressing concern, then let it slide as we tried to make the best of it. We had no choice but to make nice with them due to safety reasons. My friends were super uncomfortable and it dampened the evening.
3) Host was cold and lacked general understanding of customer service. I tried to resolve the issue privately via messages, but I received an expectedly cold response that I have no time to response to.
Better bangs for your bucks out there.

Our very first time booking though hipcamp. Questioning their minimum standards.
I cannot believe I paid $40 a night for this site. The spot was basically a gravel circle drive with a deep pit in the middle. Unkempt with tall thistles and hay and wood chunks.
Tried to check in with host. Zero response
We left after one night.

For the price, and last minute, it fit the bill; especially when all other campgrounds in the area are impossible to get into. There seems to be 3 spots here for camping; the best option was downhill from the other two, backed up to a slightly more grassy area and was probably the nicest. The second spot would be a little hike up but had a nice view of the river (just know that it is a little bit more hike in and a little less “car camper” friendly). The third spot (where we stayed) had a small shrub next to it and was wide enough for a an 8x8 footprint…would also accommodate a small (maybe 20’ RV) if backed in. Not a ton of privacy from the main road but not a ton of traffic on that road. Neighbor’s dog and the trains through the night are the downside. And know that if you are using a bucket, you probably want to bring a pop up privacy tent to go with it.

The site was amazing! There was a generator and a well for use, if needed. The ground was level and prepared for a tent. The view was absolutely breathtaking. It was a nice quiet area, too. Joe was super friendly and even gave me tips on where to go exploring. The wood chips did get a little messy in the tent, so I’d bring a broom to sweep inside! There were deer outside my tent. The sunset was amazing. Not a lot of shade during the day though!

The views are amazing and it’s nice to be out of town but still 15 minutes away from Glenwood Springs. Also clean perfect camp spots for tents

A perfect location for a self-contained 27 foot travel trailer! My husband and I enjoyed our stay and felt very safe and secure. The campsite is level and off the road enough not to hear traffic noise on a rural road near the Colorado river. The location is perfect for going into either Glenwood Springs, or rifle/salt. Not far from Newcastle at all. We enjoyed cycling, bicycle, riding, and iron Mountain spa. A perfect location and reasonable price.

Great campsite at Hillside! Our first time using Hipcamp and we were very happy. Would definitely recommend Hillside to others. Easy drive to Glenwood Glenwood Springs. Thanks for opening up your property . We were busy with a bike race and didn’t have time to hike on the property but we did enjoy the wild turkeys coming by each morning.

Nice overlook spot, was flat for the camper van, was close to the road but wasn't loud at all, easy to find but was up a little steep section of gravel for 30 ft. Pro master made it up!

Nice spot close, but don’t hear, I-70. I pitched a tent on a shaded enclosed spot on the right side as you enter, the wood chips helped.

Not what i was expecting. Its more of a pull out on the side of the road. But the traffic wasn't bad. River access is questionable. not sure if you cross private land to access and no established trail that we could find.

Lovely spot! I camped in my car last minute and Joe was quick to respond to my questions. Quiet, many options to camp, beautiful views, and not hot in the am sunrise due to the location of the hillside. Perfect place.

Joes campsite had a nice view and easy access from the road. Joe replied fast on questions. The campsite had a nice wood bed and it was clean. You could hear the traffic a little bit but nothing that disturbed us.

Joes spot was everything we needed and nothing we didn’t. Great spot for a tent with a view. Joe checkin with us before arriving very late at night and stayed not to hesitate to reach out if we needed anything no matter the hour. That spoke to me and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again if need.

Joe is still constructing his campground, so some of the info is a bit vague. I suggest calling or texting with him before you get to the campground as service can be spotty (AT&T). He is fast at responding and gives you all the info you need. After getting there he explained there were some spots you could hike to and I was sold! The views are epic and worth the quick hike!!
This spot is not for those wanting a glamping experience. No bathrooms! But I will say it made for the best views while going 😬😳😅!

I got a bit confused by the directions but ended up getting a beautiful spot up on the hill, overlooking the river and mountains. The host was very helpful!

Not a great camp ground. Photos show close-ups of the river and nearby lake hikes, but this is for a property next to a ditch by the interstate. Said ditch is full of trash and graffiti if you look in it. Neighbor campers left their generator on half the night and kept us from sleeping, and the host didn’t do anything.
Also, half the sites are just in a dirt driveway. There is one site on a hill, but it is surrounded by barbed wire on a very treacherously steep, not remotely flat dirt path. And I know it is listed as nomadic camping, but the lack of any property improvement wasn’t great - we could have found something much nicer and more scenic in the woods somewhere.

Absolutely beautiful and peaceful site, the views are breathtaking and river nearby. Host is very nice, greeted us, gave us tips around the area places to explore, super friendly.
Absolutely loved the place and definitely recommend! Breathtaking view of the river and mountains and the night sky - so many stars, it just gets better and better every passing minutes. Beautiful site to see the sunset and sunrise. Private and peaceful.
