Our delightfully funny 5 acre farmstead was built by Swedish Pioneers in 1876 and we pioneered our Hipcamp on 18 June 2023. LOTSA COMMUNIQUE We like/need more texts or messages than the average bear (as some say). We need to make sure we are around to open the gate and help setup for an especially pleasant stay. You will receive an automated message that gives basics about 48 hours before arrival. Other texts include EMERGENCY INFO, THINGS TO DO, such as the 360 view of Kansas from our local castle, Coronado Heights or the Swedish aisle of White’s Grocery Line.

Borntrager Dairy

Come and spend some time at a direct-to-consumer dairy farm. Our cows are called Dutch Belted. They are often referred to as Oreo cows. Stay on the farm where the milk is produced, processed, and sold. The farm store is a short distance away and sells a large variety of farm foods. The farm consists of about 200 acres of pasture and creek bottom. The owner, Loyd, has lived on the farm all his life. We are right beside what used to be a Navy base... yeah in Kansas.:) The runway still gets used for gliders. So you might see a glider being pulled up while you are here.

About

Part of a system of lakes, Kanopolis Lake tag teams with Cedar Bluff Reservoir to regulate water flow in the Smoky Hill River Basin. A portion of the lake storage is set aside for the Post Rock Rural Water District, which quenches the thirst of many local farms and communities.

Along the shoreline you'll find four recreational facilities: Kanopolis State Park, Venango Public Use Area, Yanke Run Point Public Use Area and Boldt Bluff Public Use Area. The park features a vast 22,000 acres of rolling hills, bluffs, woods, a lake and nearly a marathon’s length of trails for recreational purposes.

When to go

The prime time to visit Kanopolis Lake is between May 1st and September 30th, when the park's full services are available. Shoulder seasons offer quieter visits but with limited facilities. Avoid the chill of winter to make the most of the lake's offerings.
